Role Description
- This is a full-time, on-site role for a Project Control Manager based in Uyo. The Project Control Manager will oversee project planning, monitoring, and execution while ensuring activities align with timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Responsibilities include leading project teams, managing resources, coordinating with stakeholders, and implementing effective project management practices. The manager will ensure proper compliance with established processes and oversee reporting on project outcomes and milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Project Controls Leadership and Governance
- Establish, implement, and manage the Project Controls Framework, covering planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and performance reporting.
- Develop and maintain project controls policies, procedures, and standards aligned with international best practices.
- Define baseline scope, schedule, and cost parameters and ensure strict change control governance.
- Serve as the single source of truth for project performance data.
Planning, Scheduling and Progress Control
- Develop and maintain the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) using Primavera P6 and/or MS Project.
- Ensure full integration of design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning schedules.
- Establish schedule baselines, milestones, and critical path analyses.
- Monitor schedule performance, identify slippages, and recommend recovery and acceleration strategies.
- Validate contractors’ schedules and progress updates for accuracy and realism.
- Implement earned value management (EVM) techniques to track schedule performance objectively.
Cost Control, Forecasting and Performance Management
- Establish and maintain the project cost control system, ensuring accurate tracking of budgets, commitments, actual costs, and forecasts.
- Monitor cost performance against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare detailed variance analyses and identify trends that may impact project financial outcomes.
- Support cash flow forecasting and funding alignment in collaboration with Finance and Commercial teams.
- Review contractors’ cost reports, payment applications, and change cost proposals from a controls perspective.
Change Management and Risk Control
- Manage the change control process, ensuring all variations are properly evaluated for schedule and cost impacts before approval.
- Maintain a comprehensive project risk and opportunity register.
- Quantify risk impacts and support mitigation and contingency planning.
- Provide early warnings to management on emerging risks and potential deviations from baseline plans.
Reporting, Dashboards and Executive Communication
- Prepare and issue weekly, monthly, and executive-level project controls reports.
- Develop performance dashboards covering schedule, cost, risk, procurement, and progress KPIs.
- Present clear, concise insights to executive leadership, highlighting risks, trends, and required decisions.
- Ensure reporting accuracy, consistency, and audit-ready documentation always.
Interface with Project, Commercial and Construction Teams
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Design Manager, Commercial Manager, and Construction teams to ensure alignment between plans and execution.
- Support commercial and contract teams in evaluating claims, extensions of time, and variations.
- Validate progress measurements and earned value claims from contractors.
- Ensure procurement and long-lead items are fully integrated into the master schedule.
Systems, Data Integrity and Digital Controls
- Implement and manage project controls software and digital tools, including Primavera P6, ERP systems, Power Bi and reporting platforms.
- Ensure high data integrity, traceability, and version control across all planning and reporting outputs.
- Support digitalization and continuous improvement of project controls processes.
Team Leadership and Capability Development
- Lead and mentor project controls engineers, planners, and cost controllers.
- Set performance expectations and ensure high standards of professionalism and accountability.
- Build project controls capability and promote best practices across the project team.
- Support knowledge transfer and documentation of lessons learned.
Project Close-Out and Performance Evaluation
- Support final costs and schedule close-out activities.
- Ensure final project performance metrics, reports, and records are completed and archived.
- Participate in post-project reviews and performance evaluations.
- Capture and document lessons learned for future projects.
Qualifications
- Strong Supervisory Skills to effectively manage and lead construction teams
- Proficiency in Budgeting and Project Control to ensure projects remain within financial and timeline constraints
- Thorough understanding of Construction Safety and best practices to maintain a secure work environment
- Expertise in Construction techniques, methods, and quality standards
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with construction project software and tools
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Previous experience in managing large-scale construction projects is highly desirable
