Job Summary
Your goals will include, among others, providing technical expertise in the design, execution, and maintenance of mechanical systems across the company’s retail outlets and asset base. You will play a key role in supporting ongoing projects, evaluating technical drawings, supervising contractors, and ensuring that all mechanical assets are installed, operated, and maintained according to safety, regulatory, and performance standards. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Project and Asset Management Lead to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and with optimal operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Technical Oversight:
- Review and validate mechanical designs, specifications, and technical drawings for new and existing retail outlet projects.
- Monitor construction and installation of mechanical systems (e.g., piping, fuel dispensing equipment, compressors, pumps, storage tanks, fire suppression systems, etc.).
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure contractors’ work aligns with approved designs, safety standards, and company expectations.
- Provide technical input during project planning, budgeting, and procurement phases.
Asset Maintenance & Optimization
- Support the preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical assets across all retail stations.
- Participate in root cause analysis and resolution of mechanical failures or equipment breakdowns.
- Work with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure timely maintenance interventions.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies during project execution and asset operations.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation for all assets, equipment specifications, maintenance history, and warranties.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Provide regular reports on project status, equipment performance, and maintenance activities.
- Contribute to process improvements aimed at optimizing mechanical system performance and reducing downtime.
- Stay updated with emerging mechanical engineering trends and apply innovative solutions where appropriate.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering (preferably in downstream retail oil & gas or related industries).
- Membership in COREN or relevant engineering bodies is an added advantage.
- Solid understanding of fuel systems, mechanical construction standards, and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings, engineering software, and reporting tools.
- Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- A focus on execution. Willing and able to get hands dirty, and attack problems/projects as they arise.
