Job Summary
The Primary School Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction that promotes the academic, social, emotional, moral, and physical development of pupils. The teacher will create a safe, engaging, and stimulating learning environment while delivering lessons in line with the school's curriculum and values. The role also involves assessing learners' progress, maintaining classroom discipline, and fostering positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging daily lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum.
- Teach core primary school subjects effectively using learner-centered teaching methods.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the varying learning needs and abilities of pupils.
- Integrate technology and teaching aids to enhance learning experiences.
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving among pupils.
Classroom Management
- Create and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Establish classroom rules and maintain discipline in line with the school's behaviour management policy.
- Supervise pupils during classroom activities, assemblies, break periods, and school events.
- Promote respect, teamwork, responsibility, and good character.
Assessment and Record Keeping
- Prepare and administer classwork, assignments, projects, tests, and examinations.
- Mark and assess pupils' work promptly and fairly.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and academic performance.
- Prepare report cards and other academic records within specified timelines.
- Monitor pupils' progress and provide intervention where necessary.
Child Development and Welfare
- Support the intellectual, emotional, social, and moral development of every pupil.
- Identify pupils with learning or behavioural challenges and work with the school management and parents to provide appropriate support.
- Safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of all pupils at all times.
Parent and Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain effective communication with parents regarding pupils' academic progress and behaviour.
- Attend parent-teacher meetings and provide constructive feedback.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
School Activities
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and professional development programmes.
- Assist in organizing school events, educational trips, competitions, and extracurricular activities.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Head Teacher or School Management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education (B.Ed.), B.A.Ed., B.Sc. Ed., NCE, OND or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of teaching experience in a primary school (preferred).
