    Photography Instructor

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
    The Kanem Creative Workshop

    FAAF is starting the training of young people in the area of digital literacy; photography, videography, audio documentaries, social media. Adequate digital literacy is missing in North Eastern Nigeria and in today’s world, technology plays a pivotal role. To navigate and contribute to the society, young people need to be digitally literate. Phase one of this project will be a photography workshop. The focus of this workshop will be to empower women and young people in the area of digital capacity building and create a community well versed in new media and reporting issues affecting survivors of the Boko haram conflict. This will enable young people in the communities to contribute to the transformative information sharing that will help bring succour to victims of conflict. The project seeks to give victims and survivors in Borno state a platform to heal and give testimonies of their lives and experiences through visual arts. 

    POSITION SUMMARY

    REPORTING & SUPERVISION

    The instructor will be reporting to the FAAF staff who will be monitoring the workshop.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibilities will be:                            

    • Plan, prepare and deliver course, training materials as well as course content.
    • Lead instruction of course material in specified class hours.
    • Preparing and creating materials, coursework and homework for students.
    • Teach students the tools needed to work effectively in photography, how to capture photos and scenes; composition, lighting and more
    • Lecture on the ethics and code of conduct in photography.
    • Teaching or other instructional field experience in photography.
    • Familiarize students with digital media software applications such as Photoshop, Light-box or other systems for digital color management.
    • Mentor students on visual storytelling post workshop.
    • Be available to students via online groups for coaching and mentoring.

    REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    •  University degree in Fine Arts, Mass Communications, or related social sciences field is required.
    •  Five years’ work experience in a related field is required.
    •  Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.
    •  Prior experience with photography training in NGO funded projects.
    •  Problem solving, stress management and time management skills are required.
    •  Proficient at using Microsoft office software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
    •  Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
    •  Excellent record keeping and documentation skills are required.
    •  Experience of working in a conflict environment.

    • Short profile, including CV, diplomas, certificates of photography-related studies;
    • Detailed individual portfolio showcasing range of work (i.e. outdoor, indoor conferences, portraits, group activities etc.) with links to specific sites/media, outlets/publications where the works have been published;
    • A description of production capabilities.

    Selection Criteria

    FAAF will make an award decision on the basis of the excellence of the technically acceptable (meets or exceeds the stated technical specifications) proposals received. 

    Other Conditions

    The following conditions should be considered while preparing a competent proposal. 

    Modification and Withdrawal of RFP

    FAAF reserves the right to modify by written notice the terms of this RFP at any time in its sole discretion.  FAAF also reserves the right to withdraw this RFP at any time—with or without statement of cause—prior to actual award.

    Multiple Awards and No Obligation to Award

    • FAAF reserves the right to issue more than one award. 
    • FAAF may reject any or all proposals or not award a contract under this RFP if such action is in the best interests of FAAF, its Client, or the Host Country.  FAAF may also waive informalities and minor irregularities in proposals received, should such actions be in the best interest of FAAF, its Client, or the Host Country.
