    Managing Director (MD)/CEO Agro-Trading

     Main Function    

    A subsidiary, poised to lead its strategic entry into Nigeria’s agricultural and commodity trading sectors, seeks a visionary MD/CEO to oversee its operations and strategy execution. The MD/CEO will consolidate and build upon an extensive portfolio of partnerships, real estate, and investments to drive sustainable growth and profitability in Nigeria’s critical agriculture sector.    

     Role Responsibilities     

    Strategic Leadership and Development:

    • Lead the vision, strategy, and long-term business growth in alignment with corporate objectives.
    • Define key performance targets, market positioning, and sector expansion goals.

    Operational Setup and Oversight:

    • Establish operational frameworks, including business infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and strategic partnerships.
    • Drive innovation and efficiency across business processes to ensure scalability and competitiveness.

    Finance and Capital Raising:

    • Leverage existing assets and strategic goodwill to secure financing from development banks and other financial institutions.
    • Implement innovative financial strategies to enhance business growth and liquidity.

    Executive Leadership and Talent Development:

    • Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier executives to form a high-performing, cohesive leadership team.
    • Foster a results-driven, collaborative culture aligned with corporate values.

    Business Expansion and Diversification:

    • Identify and capitalize on diversification opportunities within and beyond agriculture, including commodity trading and adjacent markets.
    • Strengthen partnerships with government and private sector stakeholders to optimize market presence and sector impact.

    Performance and Accountability:

    • Monitor and report key business metrics to the Executive Board.
    • Ensure transparency and accountability through effective governance and stakeholder engagement.

    Qualifications    

    Education and Certifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field
    • A Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Agribusiness, Finance, or Public Policy is an added advantage 
    • Certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2)

    Experience

    • Minimum of 15+ years of progressive leadership experience
    • 10+ years in executive or senior management roles (e.g., Managing Director, CEO, COO, Country Director)
    • At least 5 years in agri-business, commodity trading, or agritech sectors

    Skills

    • Proven expertise in the agricultural sector and commodity trading, with a solid understanding of market dynamics and economic opportunities.

    Leadership Excellence:

    • A track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering measurable business results in complex environments.

    Financial Acumen:

    • Demonstrated success in raising capital, structuring innovative financial solutions, and leveraging assets for financing.

    Partnership Development:

    • Strong networking and relationship-building skills, with experience navigating multi-stakeholder environments (government, private sector, NGOs).

    Adaptability and Resilience:

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-changing business landscape, responding to challenges with agility and innovation.
