    Background

    • The Integrated Child Health and Social Services Award (ICHSSA) Project is currently being implemented in ten (10) Local Government Areas in Lagos State by the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) with support from USAID, and working in partnership with FHI 360 and Project HOPE through ten (10) community based organizations (CBOs) providing quality care, treatment and support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in the State.
    • The project is focused on providing comprehensive health and social services to OVC, mainly the HIV infected and affected households by ensuring the execution of un-interrupted HIV services across the 95-95-95 cascade for all its enrolled sub-population (Beneficiaries).
    • In line with the COP20 OVC guidance and prevention program aimed at preventing Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) against youth, which in turn reduces the risk of acquiring HIV; ARFH ICHSSA 2 project along with other IPs will be piloting the rollout of the No Means No Worldwide (NMNW) IMpower curriculum among adolescent boys aged 9-14years in Agege LGA.
    • No Means No Worldwide (NMNW) is an internationally acclaimed technical assistance and training organization with a mission to end sexual violence against women and children around the world by raising gender positive boys and girls.
    • NMNW provides training and technical assistance for local implementing partner organization to deliver the IMpower curriculum in a highly contextualized and impactful manner. NMNW is currently implementing IMpower with PEPFAR support through the ACHIEVE project, a USAID-funded global cooperative agreement led by PACT.
    • The IMpowerApproach combines 3 components to form acomprehensive dual-gender intervention:
      • 12-hours of IMpower empowerment self-defense classes;
      • Network referral systems; and
      • Survivors in Recovery Anonymous (SIRA) aftercare support.
    • The IMpowerapproach to empowerment self-defense emphasizes early recognition of boundary testing, negotiation, diffusion and distraction tactics, and verbal assertiveness. Physical tactics and skills are also learned with the guidance that they should only be used if they are the last or best option.
    • Trained IMpowerInstructors bring the program to life by teaching girls the verbal and physical skills and strategies to prevent sexual assault and other forms of SGBV, and reshaping boys’ harmful beliefs around gender, sexuality, and positive masculinity, whileteaching them skills to intervene when anticipating or witnessing violence.

    Position Summary

    • The purpose of the position will be to learn and teach IMpower, NMNW’s proven system of violence prevention, intervention and recovery. ICHSSA 2 will enable NMNW’s scale-through-replication model by launching the buys components of IMpower programs in and supporting our CBOs to roll out our IMpower program with fidelity and success.
    • Male instructor will be responsible for first mastering a 12-hour curriculum for male adolescents ages 9-14- that imparts mental, verbal and physical skills as well as male gender-responsive philosophy and human rights.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Must be available to participate in a training to learn the IMpower Curriculum and prevention intervention in the targeted LGA / community(s)
    • Implement the IMpower curriculum with youth (male)  aged 9-14 years
    • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive referral network of prevention and aftercare resource providers i.e medical, legal, social
    • Set up and maintain Survivors In recovery Anonymous (SIRA) meetings for survivors
    • Conduct and collect basic M&E data from youth participants
    • Liaise with CBO child protection, gender-based violence organizations, stakeholders, government sources and schools in linking beneficiaries to appropriate care
    • Work hand in hand with CSO and community medical, legal and social service providers etc. to ensure abused children are appropriately referred for services, reported and managed accordingly.
    • Track all abuse disclosures and referrals in approved registered and reporting forms.
    • Compile and submit monthly reports to CSO and project supervisors
    • Any other duties as required by the project time to time.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Minimum of OND in Science or Social Sciences
    • Age 19+ (Ideally between 20 - 35)
    • At least 1 -2 years’ experience of working in the field of OVC, Gender-based Violence will have an added advantage.
    • MUST be available for a full-time training & regular delivery of the program with the youths beginning immediately after the 4 weeks training for 12 weeks.
    • Should have demonstrated proficiency for communicating in English and local languages for the target LGA / community (Yoruba and pidgin).

    Candidate Profile:

    • Applicant must be MALE
    • MUST be resident in AGEGE LGA where the project is to be implemented
    • Passionate about the rights of women and children
    • Leadership qualities (Critical thinking, Humility, Honesty, Determination, Flexibility)
    • Ability to be a positive role model for boys
    • Good listener & communicator in both English and local language(s)
    • Passionate about working with and being a mentor to youth participants

    Working Relationship:

    • Case Managers, CBO staff, Program monitor, SI and Program staff
