    Machinist

    Job Summary

    The Machinist will operate and maintain various machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Your expertise in machining techniques and mechanical aptitude will be vital in ensuring the efficient production of high-quality components. Additionally, you will uphold rigorous standards of housekeeping and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.

    Key Result Areas (KRA)                                                                             

    The key result areas of this role are:

    • Produce high-quality, precise components meeting specifications and tolerances. 
    • Operate machines efficiently, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
    • Maintain high-quality standards through accurate measurements and strict adherence to production specifications.
    • Resolve machining issues promptly, ensuring minimal impact on production schedules.

    Responsibilities

    • Machine Operation: Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
    • Precision Machining: Produce precision parts and instruments by interpreting blueprints, sketches, or engineering specifications. Ensure adherence to tight tolerances and quality standards.
    • Tool Selection: Select and use appropriate tools, machines, and materials for each job. Monitor and replace cutting tools as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
    • Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks on machined parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy.
    • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to machine operation, tool wear, or product defects. Collaborate with maintenance technicians for complex repairs when required.
    • Housekeeping and GMP: Maintain a clean and organized work area, following established housekeeping protocols and GMP guidelines. Properly handle and dispose of waste materials.
    • Documentation: Record production and inspection data, including measurements and quantities produced. Prepare accurate reports and documentation as required.
    • Safety: Adhere to safety regulations, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

    The Person

    • High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational training or an apprenticeship in machining is highly desirable. 
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Machinist, preferably in a manufacturing or precision engineering environment. 
    • Proficiency in operating lathes, milling machines, and grinders. Familiarity with various materials and their machining properties.
    • Keen attention to detail and ability to work with precision, maintaining accuracy in measurements and machining processes.
    • Basic communication skills to understand instructions and collaborate with team members.
    • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions.
    • Deep commitment to safety protocols, regulations, and best practices, with a focus on creating a safe working environment.
