    Livelihood Officer

    JOB SUMMARY

    CARE is seeking a Livelihoods Officer for its anticipated Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) funded program to provide support to internally displaced and host community households in Yobe State (Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani and Tarmua LGAs). The program aims to enable conflict affected people meet their immediate multi-sectoral needs and reduce the use of negative coping strategies, and increase access to food, income, protection, and nutrition services, CARE will provide support to the targeted households through livelihood restoration, financial inclusion, improved agricultural production and gender and protection mainstreaming. The Livelihoods Officer will be responsible for planning, implementation, and monitoring of agricultural income generating activities (IGA), and agri-business development initiatives.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS:

     Job Responsibility #1: Activity Planning and Implementation         

    • Lead on the livelihood component including planning, implementation, and monitoring. 
    • Ensure that the project livelihood activities are implemented in line with the project main objectives for the targeted groups and in compliance with CARE and BHA policies and practice with respect to safeguarding policy, code of conduct, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures. 
    • Update activities trackers for the livelihood component. 
    • Draft concise, useful, and analytical reports, case studies, and other documents as needed on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis as required.
    • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders including other NGOs, INGOs, governmental authorities and private sector to ensure smooth implementation.
    • Support MEAL team in developing and updating monitoring tools relevant to the project’s livelihood interventions

    Job Responsibility #2: Capacity Building/ Technical Support                    

    • Mobilize beneficiaries into product groups.
    • Review and adapt basic business, financial and relevant technical training material.
    • Deliver livelihoods and agricultural trainings (FFBS, business management, agro-processing, and Product Marketing) and coaching sessions for beneficiaries. 
    • Identify and organize collaborative partnership with the relevant governmental authorities, local services providers or traders and ensure targeted HH have access to this network.
    • Facilitating peer-to-peer support and formal collaboration between targeted HHs.

    Job Responsibility #3: Coordination and Representation

    • Participate in coordination cluster assessments.
    • Represent the CARE on coordination meetings at LGA, community and wards.

    Resource Mobilization                                                                                     

    • Contribute to CARE's funding sourcing and resource mobilization initiatives through information gathering, supporting assessments, learnings, and documentations.
    • Support other assigned outsourcing activities.
    • Fulfill any other Responsibilities as Assigned

    QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

    Required

    • Diploma or University degree in Agriculture or Agri-business Management or any related field.
    • Minimum 3 years of work experience in agricultural and livelihoods programming.
    • Ability to write reports of high quality.
    • Sound knowledge of entrepreneurship and agricultural value chain development related activities.

    Desired

    • Knowledge of local languages spoken in Borno and Yobe.
    • Previous experience with INGOs or NGOs.
    • Advanced computers skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Ability to establish priorities, plan, coordinate and organize own work plan
