    Legal and Compliance Officer

    Role Overview

    • We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal and Compliance Officer to join our team.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the company’s operations comply with all legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements, while also safeguarding the company’s interests through effective contract management, policy implementation, and risk management.

    Key Responsibilities
    Legal Duties:

    • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, NDAs, MoUs, and other legal documents to protect the company’s interests.
    • Provide sound legal advice to management and business units on corporate, commercial, and labor law matters.
    • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external counsel, and government agencies as required.
    • Ensure statutory filings, licenses, permits, and other legal obligations are up to date.
    • Conduct legal research and provide updates on legislative and regulatory developments affecting the company.

    Compliance Duties:

    • Develop, implement, and monitor compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures across the company.
    • Conduct periodic compliance audits and risk assessments to identify gaps and recommend solutions.
    • Ensure adherence to industry-specific regulations and corporate governance standards.
    • Monitor and report any compliance breaches or risks, and support remedial actions.
    • Organize training programs for employees on compliance policies, ethics, and regulatory updates.
    • Oversee compliance relating to data protection, anti-money laundering (AML), and other risk areas.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Timely review and delivery of legal documents and contracts.
    • Zero/low occurrence of regulatory breaches or penalties.
    • Timely compliance reporting and statutory filings.
    • Quality of legal advisory services to management.
    • Effectiveness of compliance training and awareness initiatives.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister-at-Law (BL); a Master’s Degree or additional certification in compliance is an advantage.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in a Legal and Compliance Officer role or similar position.
    • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, and employment laws.
    • Experience in drafting and reviewing legal documents, policies, and compliance reports.
    • Familiarity with regulatory bodies such as CAC, SEC, CBN, NDIC, and other relevant institutions (depending on industry).

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • High ethical standards, integrity, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive matters confidentially.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and legal research databases.
