Job Summary

Black Pelican Group is seeking a meticulous and proactive Legal and Compliance Associate to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring that the company’s operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, while also providing legal support across business functions. The successful candidate will safeguard the organization’s legal interests, mitigate risks, and support strategic growth.

Location: Lekki Phase 1, Lagos

Key Responsibilities

1. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
2. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
3. Provide legal advice and guidance to management and other departments.
4. Monitor regulatory developments and advise the business on potential impact.
5. Support the development and implementation of compliance policies, frameworks, and training programs.
6. Conduct periodic compliance reviews and risk assessments.
7. Manage and resolve legal disputes, liaising with external counsel where necessary.
8. Maintain accurate records of legal documents, filings, and compliance reports.
9. Assist in corporate governance matters, including board resolutions and statutory filings.
10. Advise on employment law, intellectual property, and data protection issues as required.
11. Follow up on compliance-related issues, including outstanding regulatory obligations.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); BL qualification is mandatory.
2. Minimum of 3–4 years’ relevant experience in legal and compliance functions, preferably within corporate or commercial sectors.
3. Strong knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, and regulatory laws.
4. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
5. High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
6. Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
7. Integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.
