    Inclusion Specialists (Inclusive Education Support)

    Program Description

    • Taimako Community Development Initiative (TCDI), in collaboration with Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and with funding from the German government, is implementing a project titled "Promoting Inclusive Education and Vocational Training in Nigeria."
    • The project aims to strengthen inclusive education systems in 9 selected primary and secondary schools across Bade, Nguru, and Nangere LGAs in Yobe State.
    • To achieve this, TCDI seeks to engage 12 Inclusion Specialists (6 Braille and 6 Sign Language specialists).
    • These consultants will serve a dual role: offering direct instructional support to children with disabilities and mentoring teachers in inclusive classroom practices.

    Job Summary

    • The purpose of this assignment is to introduce inclusive pedagogy in selected schools and ensure children with disabilities receive the support they need.
    • The specific objective of this consultancy is to strengthen inclusive education practices in target schools by:
      • Supporting learners with disabilities through direct, specialist-led instruction.
      • Equipping teachers with skills and strategies for inclusive teaching through mentoring and need-based training.

    Reporting and Supervision:

    • The facilitator will report to the TCDI Program officer and coordinate closely with the CBM counsellor to ensure smooth delivery of the training.

    Scope of Work & Primary Responsibilities

    • The Inclusion Specialists (6 Braille specialists and 6 Sign Language specialists) will be responsible for supporting three schools in each LGA. 2 braille specialists and 2 Sign Language interpreters in a school in each of the 3 LGAs, but roving 2 other schools in the same LGA with the following responsibilities:
    • Provide instructional support to students with visual or hearing impairments.
    • Collaborate with mainstream teachers to plan, adapt, and implement inclusive lesson plans.
    • Conduct informal training during monthly school staff meetings covering:
      • Communication techniques for engaging students with disabilities.
      • Inclusive classroom management strategies.
      • Practical methods to foster participatory and barrier-free learning environments.
    • Support teachers to identify and address learning barriers.
    • Provide feedback and technical input to improve inclusive practices at the school level.
    • Document and report progress, challenges, and lessons learned. The specialists will provide support services in the following schools.

    Primary and Secondary schools:

    • Kasugula Hausari Primary School (Nguru, Yobe State)
    • Ruhuddeen Bulabulin Primary (Nguru, Yobe State)
    • Dabule Primary School, Dabule (Nguru, Yobe State)
    • Katuzu Primary and Junior Secondary School, Katuzu (Bade, Yobe State)
    • Lamido Musa primary and Junior secondary school. Garin lamido (Bade, Yobe State)
    • Umar Suleiman Primary and Secondary School, Lawan Musa (Bade, Yobe State)
    • Government Day Junior Secondary School, Dawasa (Nangere, Yobe State)
    • Kukuri Primary School, Kukuri (Nangere, Yobe State)
    • Government Day Junior Secondary School Dagare, Langawa (Nangere, Yobe State)

    Specific Deliverabiles:
    Each of the specialists are expected to submit to TCDI the following:

    • Monthly progress reports detailing
    • Instructional activities provided.
    • Teacher support activities conducted.
    • Observed outcomes and challenges.
    • Quarterly reflect notes and recommendations.
    • Participation in quarterly project review and advocacy sessions with stakeholders.

    Specialist’s Roles and Responsibilities:
    The Inclusion Specialists will:

    • Offer instructional support tailored to the needs of learners with hearing or visual impairments.
    • Mentor teachers and promote inclusive pedagogical practices during staff meetings.
    • Collaborate with school leadership in identifying and addressing learning barriers.
    • Support the development of inclusive learning materials where possible.
    • Submit timely documentation of activities, challenges, and recommendations.
    • Participate in periodic coordination meetings with TCDI and education authorities.
    • The specialist is expected to uphold the principles of confidentiality, respect, PSEAH, Child Labour and inclusiveness throughout the assignment, ensuring that the rights and dignity of children with and without disabilities are prioritized.
    • Level of Effort and Remuneration: The specialists will be paid 100,000 naira monthly and will be expected to appear in classes 3 times a week, 7 hours daily and submit monthly reports of activities done.
    • Time Schedule: The assignment will cover 23 months, beginning from the 1st of July 2025

    Required Qualifications and Experience
    To be eligible for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following:

    • Minimum qualification: Diploma or Degree in Special Education, Inclusive Education, or related field.
    • Proven certification or fluency in Braille (for Braille Specialists) or Sign Language (for Sign Language Specialists).
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with children with disabilities.
    • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and/or conducting informal training.
    • Good understanding of inclusive education principles and disability rights.
    • Familiarity with the education context in Northeast Nigeria is an asset.
    • Strong documentation and communication skills.

    Payment Terms: Payments will be made monthly upon submission and acceptance of activity reports.

    Safeguarding Requirements:
    All consultants must adhere to TCDI and CBM safeguarding policies and uphold ethical practices throughout the engagement. This includes:

    • Respecting the dignity and rights of all students, particularly those with disabilities.
    • Securing consent from school authorities before engaging with children.
    • Ensuring confidentiality in all documentation and reporting.
    • Identifying and reporting any safeguarding concerns or risks related to learning environments or interactions.
    • Promoting inclusion, equity, and safety in all interactions and training.
