    Hydraulic / Hydrology Engineer (Water Resources Engineering)

    Location: Abuja (FCT) 

    Key Responsibilities
    Design, Analysis & Modelling:

    • Develop and review hydrological and hydraulic models using HEC-RAS, and other advanced modelling tools to simulate water flow, flood levels, and drainage capacity.
    • Prepare designs for open channels, box culverts, pipe culverts, siphons, stormwater detention systems, scour protection, and erosion control structures.
    • Conduct rainfall-runoff analysis, floodplain mapping, and peak discharge estimation using statistical hydrology methods (Gumbel, Log-Pearson Type III, etc.).
    • Integrate hydraulic design with railway alignment, structural works, and geotechnical requirements to ensure safe and efficient water management.
    • Produce detailed plan and profile drawings, hydraulic calculation sheets, specifications, and Bills of Quantities for tender and construction purposes.
    • Review contractors’ design submissions for technical compliance and constructability.
    • Maintain digital project archives of hydrological data, GIS-based drainage maps, and as-built hydraulic drawings.

    General Responsibilities:

    • Ensure compliance with relevant design standards such as BS EN 752, BS EN 16933, AASHTO Drainage Manual, UIC standards, and applicable national codes.
    • Apply sustainable drainage principles (SuDS) where feasible to minimise environmental impacts.
    • Provide technical advice during project risk assessments for flood hazards and water-related failures.
    • Coordinate with civil, structural, and environmental teams to address hydraulic interfaces and resolve design conflicts.
