    GM, Safety Health & Environmental Manager (Sub-Sahara Africa) Expatriate

    Our client is a well-established Pan-African conglomerate with over 60 years of experience across multiple sectors in more than 20 African countries.

    We are looking for a proactive and experienced Group Safety Health & Environmental Manager who will hold the overall responsibility for leading Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) improvement initiatives to drive excellence at the site level. They collaborate with site Supply Chain teams to develop and implement local SHE strategies and improvement plans aimed at achieving sustainable excellence by minimizing injuries, illnesses, and environmental impact, as measured by core KPIs. This role spans multiple geographies across the organization’s footprint.

    Scope:

    • Full accountability for managing site-wide safety, health, and environmental initiatives.
    • Ensure the effective implementation of safety, health, and environmental standards at global, regional, and local levels.
    • Investigation of accident, incident and near-miss on site
    • Coordinate and conduct site-specific safety training for all employees and external contractors to ensure compliance and safe work practices.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Deploy the global/cluster SHE strategy, policy and standards in the site to achieve excellent sustainable results
    • Manage the SHE teams responsible to deliver Occupational Health, Safety and Environment results
    • Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement  appropriate controls
    • Ensure annual review of SHE policy with stakeholders and cascade of SHE policy to employees, contractors and visitors across site.
    • Conducts and review risk assessment of factory operations/site/contractor/projects/3P with line managers.
    • Conducts risk assessment of offsite events well ahead of event and ensure recommendations are implemented.
    • Monitor and ensure the effective implementation of agreed control measures to maintain safe operations group wide
    • Oversee the execution of established site objectives and targets, ensuring alignment with the approved management program.
    • Coordinate the formulating and review of SOPs.
    • Monitor and report monthly environmental parameters on liquid discharge, gaseous emission and solid waste disposal form the factory to ensure compliance with the organization’s group standard.
    • Ensure safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials across site.
    • Liaise with government agency on all issues as it relates to safety health and environmental matters and advises the site management.
    • Communicates all relevant Local/organization’s standards to employees, contractors and visitors.
    • Identify training needs & implementing SHE training program for all stakeholders categories and Contractors.
    • Co-ordinates hazard spotting, near-misses and report of unsafe act in the work place/site
    • Ensure safety inspection/servicing of all fire fighting equipment on site monthly and close up all identified gaps.
    • Follow up on all SHE related issues with SIL chemicals.
    • Implementing the organization’s Nigeria policy on contractor management within the Factory.
    • Co-ordinates meetings with key stakeholders across the group
    • Follow up on all leadership team SHE inspection actions across group
    • Custodian of Safety, Health and Environmental Expertise on site

    Qualifications/Skills:

    • University graduate with 15+ years’ experience in the FMCG and general manufacturing industry with similar technologies
    • Safety, Health and Environment working Knowledge.
    • Strong leadership
    • High quality of communication and influencing
    • Manufacturing and/or Engineering experience
    • Proven track record of analytical thinking and project management
