    HSE Officer

    Job Summary:

    The HSE Officer will support the implementation and day-to-day monitoring of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities across Mshel Homes Limited's construction sites and project operations. With a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, the successful candidate will play a frontline role in enforcing safety standards, conducting inspections, delivering toolbox talks, and fostering a proactive safety culture among site workers and staff.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Implement and monitor compliance with the company's HSE policies, procedures, and site-specific safety plans.
    • Conduct daily site safety inspections and hazard identification walks, documenting findings and ensuring prompt corrective actions.
    • Deliver regular toolbox talks, inductions, and safety awareness sessions to site workers, artisans, and subcontractors.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and method statements for site activities.
    • Monitor and enforce the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all site personnel.
    • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; compile preliminary investigation reports and recommend corrective actions.
    • Maintain and update HSE records including inspection reports, incident logs, training registers, and permit-to-work documentation.
    • Support emergency response activities including first aid provision and evacuation procedures.
    • Liaise with the HSE Manager to report site safety performance, concerns, and observations.
    • Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of materials, chemicals, and waste on site.
    • Participate in HSE audits and inspections as required by the HSE Manager.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree or HND in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of HSE experience on construction sites or within the real estate/infrastructure sector.
    • Relevant HSE certifications required: NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), ISPON certification, or equivalent.
    • Valid First Aid certification is an added advantage.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Good working knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and construction site safety standards.
    • Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop site-specific safety plans.
    • Effective communication and training delivery skills.
    • Attention to detail and strong observation skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic construction environment.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for report writing and documentation.
