Engineering Manager - Ikeja Lagos at Outsource Company

The Engineering Manager will lead and oversee all engineering operations at the company. This includes managing cross-functional engineering teams, supervising project execution, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals, and driving innovation in automation and manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with hands-on experience in the engineering industry, capable of managing technical projects, guiding engineers, and collaborating across departments to deliver client-centric solutions. 

Key Responsibilities Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities 

• Provide strategic direction for the Engineering Department in line with the company’s vision and objectives. 
• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers across mechanical, electrical, industrial automation, and project domains. 
• Develop and implement departmental goals, KPIs, and performance metrics. Serve as the technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) on engineering solutions, automation projects, and systems integration.
•  Represent the department in executive management meetings and provide updates on engineering performance, innovation, and project status. Project & Operations Management 
• Plan, assign, and oversee engineering projects from design through execution and delivery, ensuring quality, cost-efficiency, and timeliness. 
• Approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documents in compliance with industry standards and client specifications. 
• Monitor project budgets, resource allocation, and material procurement with crossfunctional stakeholders. 
• Ensure consistent application of project management methodologies (Agile, PMI, etc.) across engineering teams. Technical Oversight & Innovation 
• Oversee automation and system integration projects involving PLCs, SCADA, robotics, control systems, and IoT applications.
•  Introduce and implement emerging technologies to enhance engineering performance and product delivery. 
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in product development, process optimization, and technical service delivery. Conduct regular technical reviews and troubleshooting sessions with the team. People Management & Development 
• Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate engineers and technical staff. 
• Build a high-performing team culture focused on accountability, learning, innovation, and operational excellence. 
• Identify and implement engineering training plans to ensure continuous development and compliance with the company’s capability development goals. 
• Conduct performance appraisals and succession planning for key technical roles. Regulatory, Compliance & Safety 
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with Nigerian engineering standards (e.g., COREN, NSE), regulatory requirements, and safety protocols. 
• Champion HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) compliance across all engineering projects and sites.
•  Coordinate audits, certifications, and documentation in collaboration with the Legal and Compliance departments. Cross-Functional Collaboration 
• Work closely with HR, Procurement, Sales, Production, Quality Assurance, and Legal teams to align engineering outcomes with business goals. 
• Provide pre-sales technical support and engineering input for business development and tender processes. 
• Participate in client meetings, site visits, and technical presentations as required. 

Qualifications and Experience 

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechatronics Engineering. 
• Minimum of 10 years’ post-graduation experience, with at least 5 years in a senior engineering or technical management role. 
• Professional membership and certification with COREN is mandatory; NSE membership is a plus. 
• Proven track record of managing complex industrial automation, manufacturing, or engineering projects. 
• Demonstrated experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, industrial robots, and smart manufacturing tools. 
• Solid understanding of engineering codes, safety standards, and Nigerian regulatory requirements. 
• Strong leadership, strategic planning, and resource management skills. 
• Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills. 
• Experience with ERP systems, project management software, and engineering design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, EPLAN) is highly desirable.
