Job Summary
We are a Chinese compound fertilizer manufacturing company located in Gujungu, Jigawa State, Nigeria. Our factory has completed the major construction and installation stage and is currently entering trial production and normal operation.
We are seeking an experienced and responsible Electrical & Utilities Maintenance Engineer to take charge of the daily maintenance, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of the factory’s electrical, water supply, plumbing and utility systems.
The successful candidate will gradually take over the responsibilities currently handled by our expatriate electrical and utilities engineer and will be expected to independently support the stable operation of the factory.
This position is suitable for a practical engineer who has solid industrial experience, good troubleshooting ability and is willing to work permanently at the factory.
Key Responsibilities
The engineer will be responsible for:
Maintaining and troubleshooting factory electrical systems, including:
- Three-phase electrical systems
- Distribution boards
- MCC panels
- Circuit breakers
- Contactors
- Overload relays
- Motor starters
- Electrical cables and connections
- Industrial lighting and socket systems
- Troubleshooting and maintaining electric motors, pumps and other electrical equipment.
- Performing routine inspection and preventive maintenance of factory electrical systems.
- Maintaining factory water supply and plumbing systems, including:
- Water pumps
- Water tanks
- Pipes
- Valves
- Toilets and sanitary systems
- Factory and accommodation water systems
- Diagnosing electrical faults and taking appropriate corrective action.
- Supporting the maintenance of production machinery when electrical or simple mechanical faults occur.
- Assisting with basic mechanical maintenance such as:
- Bearings
- Gearboxes
- Couplings
- Belts
- Chains
- Conveyors
- Pumps
- Monitoring electrical equipment condition and identifying potential failures before breakdown occurs.
- Carrying out scheduled preventive maintenance according to company procedures.
- Keeping maintenance records, fault reports and spare parts records.
- Communicating with Chinese engineers and equipment suppliers when technical support is required.
- Reading and understanding basic electrical drawings, equipment manuals and technical documentation.
- Ensuring that all maintenance activities comply with safety requirements.
- Supporting emergency maintenance when unexpected production equipment failures occur.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
- HND or B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
- Practical experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of three-phase electrical systems and industrial electrical equipment.
- Able to independently troubleshoot electrical faults.
- Good knowledge of water supply systems, pumps and plumbing.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Able to communicate clearly with management, foreign engineers and equipment suppliers.
- Willing to live and work in Gujungu, Jigawa State.
- Strong sense of responsibility and ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations.
Preferred Qualifications
Priority will be given to candidates who have experience in one or more of the following:
- Fertilizer manufacturing
- Chemical plants
- Cement factories
- Feed mills
- Flour mills
- Food processing plants
- Other continuous manufacturing industries
