    Deputy Laboratory Manager

    Job Purpose

    The Deputy Laboratory Manager supports the Laboratory Manager in overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with ISO standards, safety requirements, and company procedures. The role focuses on operational continuity, staff supervision, quality assurance, and technical excellence while acting as the Laboratory Manager in their absence.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Management

    • Support and follow up on the laboratory fit-out activities, ensuring alignment with approved layouts, safety standards, and operational requirements.
    • Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and validation of laboratory equipment in collaboration with vendors, technical teams, and management.
    • Monitor progress against timelines and report any delays, technical issues, or deviations to the Laboratory Manager.
    • Ensure installed equipment complies with ISO 17025 requirements and internal quality standards prior to operational use.
    • Assist in managing day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure timely and accurate testing results.
    • Coordinate workflow, sample allocation, and testing schedules to meet turnaround time (TAT) commitments.
    • Act as the primary operational lead in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.

    Quality & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 requirements, internal SOPs, and regulatory standards.
    • Support internal and external audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Review test reports and ensure accuracy before release.

    People Management

    • Supervise laboratory staff, including performance monitoring, training, and competency assessments.
    • Support onboarding and technical training of new laboratory personnel.
    • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

    Equipment & Resources

    • Oversee proper use, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
    • Report equipment malfunctions and support procurement of consumables and spare parts.

    Reporting & Communication

    • Prepare operational reports, KPI tracking, and quality documentation as required.
    • Liaise with Operations, Inspection, Commercial, and Regional Management teams

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong leadership and people-management skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability
    • Knowledge of laboratory QA/QC systems
    • Good communication and reporting skills
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadline
