As a Database Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the full lifecycle of database systems, contributing to data analysis efforts, and designing scalable architectures to support business growth. Duties include:
Install, configure, and maintain relational and non-relational database systems.
Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies for optimal speed and efficiency.
Perform routine backups and develop robust recovery procedures to ensure data continuity.
Manage user access, roles, and database security policies to uphold data protection standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve database errors, ensuring high availability and system resilience.
Write complex SQL queries to extract, analyze, and report on data from multiple sources.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define metrics, KPIs, and reporting needs.
Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support data-driven decision-making.
Conduct regular data audits to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity across systems.
Identify trends, anomalies, and actionable insights through structured data analysis.
Design and model scalable, normalized database schemas that meet current and future requirements.
Define data structures, relationships, and indexing strategies to improve query performance.
Support data integration and migration initiatives across internal and external systems.
Document and maintain database architecture standards and development guidelines.
Collaborate with software developers and business analysts to optimize data flow, storage, and usage.
Stay informed of best practices and emerging technologies in database management and data architecture.
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in database administration, data analysis, or database architecture.
Proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with at least one major RDBMS (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
Solid understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization.
Experience with backup and recovery strategies, performance monitoring, and access control.
Familiarity with reporting and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is an advantage.
Professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, Oracle OCP, AWS Database Specialty) are a plus.
