    Database Administrator

    JOB OBJECTIVE:

    Manage and optimize various databases, ensuring their efficient performance and integrity. Also collaborate with the team to implement improvements, monitor database health and proactively address issues, execute backup and recovery strategies, implement security measures, and maintain user access control.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    System Uptime and Reliability

    • Ensure databases achieve 99.9% uptime or higher, supporting business continuity and minimizing service interruptions.
    • Proactively monitor and resolve database performance issues to avoid downtime.

    Data Security and Compliance

    • Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive data, including encryption, user access control, and compliance with regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA.
    • Conduct regular audits and ensure databases adhere to compliance and security standards.

    Performance Optimization and Tuning

    • Continuously optimize database performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks, enhancing indexing, and improving query efficiency.
    • Manage database capacity and plan for future scalability to support growing data loads and business requirements.

    Backup and Disaster Recovery

    • Develop, test, and implement comprehensive backup and recovery strategies to safeguard data and ensure quick restoration in the event of data loss or system failure.
    • Ensure disaster recovery solutions are in place, minimizing data loss and downtime.

    Project and Change Management

    • Lead database-related projects such as upgrades, migrations, and new deployments, ensuring timely delivery and minimal disruption to operations.
    • Implement version control for database schema changes and adhere to proper change management protocols.

    Collaboration and Stakeholder Communication

    • Work closely with developers, system administrators, and business units to ensure databases align with business objectives and needs.
    • Communicate database performance, issues, and upgrades to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    User Support and Troubleshooting

    • Provide ongoing support for users and other technical teams by troubleshooting database issues and delivering effective solutions.
    • Document database processes and procedures to support internal teams and end-users.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

    FINANCIAL:

    • Perform four (4) optimization activities per quarter to reduce the cost or improve efficiency
    • Identify two (2) areas of improvement in process or revenue leakages

    CUSTOMER:

    • Conduct three (3) internal customer satisfaction surveys and improve the score by 20%
    • Provide database solutions that meet the data storage and retrieval needs of internal stakeholders.
    • Ensure fast, reliable, and secure access to data for all users

    INTERNAL BUSINESS PROCESS:

    • Backup Success Rate - 100% successful backups.
    • Monitor and report efficiency to ensure above 85%, with planning for capacity expansion.
    • Zero (0) number of database incidents (Database Downtime)
    • 100% documentation of database and changes
    • 90% score in User Satisfaction

    ORGANIZATION CAPACITY (PEOPLE & SYSTEM):

    • Undergo at least three (3) technical training in a year
    • Utilize Leave days before 1 Jan 2025
    • Obtain one (1) job-related certification per year

    FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    Database Design and Modeling:

    • Ability to design efficient, scalable, and normalized database models.
    • Proficient in creating Entity-Relationship (ER) diagrams.
    • Knowledge of different data models (relational, NoSQL, etc.).

    Data Security and Compliance:

    • Understanding of data privacy laws and regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
    • Experience implementing database security measures, including encryption, user roles, and access control.
    • Knowledge of auditing and compliance requirements.

    Capacity Planning:

    • Ability to forecast database storage needs based on data growth trends.
    • Knowledge of techniques for performance optimization to handle increasing loads.

    Data Backup and Recovery:

    • Expertise in creating backup schedules and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Knowledge of data restoration, replication, and failover processes.

    GENERAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Problem-solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related issues.
    • Attention to Detail: Focused on data integrity, security, and availability.
    • Adaptability: Ability to work with rapidly evolving technologies and methodologies.

    EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION:

    • A Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
    • Advanced certifications in database management (such as Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), AWS Certified Database – Specialty, or similar) are highly preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in database administration, including managing, optimizing, and securing large-scale relational and non-relational databases.
    • Proven expertise in database design, performance tuning, and high availability configurations (e.g., clustering, replication, disaster recovery).
    • Experience in backup and recovery management, patching, and monitoring of databases to ensure system health and data integrity.
    • Solid background in working with SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, and other database scripting languages.
    • Familiarity with cloud-based databases (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and knowledge of on-premise to cloud migrations is an advantage.
