    Consultant Anaesthetist

    The Role

    • The successful candidate will provide high-quality specialist care while contributing to a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability and respect. They will participate in outpatient, inpatient, emergency and on-call services and actively support the growth and development of BCHOC.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based patient care.
    • Participate in emergency, inpatient, outpatient and on-call services.
    • Work collaboratively with nurses, midwives, doctors, allied health professionals and management.
    • Support junior staff through supervision, teaching and mentorship.
    • Contribute to service development, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
    • Maintain professional standards of communication, documentation and conduct.
    • Comply with BCHOC policies, procedures, governance arrangements and reporting structures.
    • Support the development of BCHOC's current and future locations.

    Essential Requirements

    • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical qualification. Fully qualified medical doctor with specialist training and board certification (or equivalent) in Paediatrics, General Surgery, or Anaesthesiology- as applicable.

    Relevant postgraduate specialist qualification.

    • Current practising licence.
    • Demonstrated experience within the relevant specialty.
    • Excellent clinical, communication and leadership skills.
    • Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development.
    • Strong clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management in the relevant specialty.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing emergencies, complex cases, and multidisciplinary care pathways in a hospital setting.
    • Competence in using electronic or paper-based medical record systems, clinical documentation, and basic digital tools for communication and reporting.
    • Commitment to evidence-based practice, clinical audit, quality improvement, and adherence to patient safety and infection prevention standards.
    • Ability to supervise, mentor, and support junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, fostering a collaborative team environment.
    • Strong communication, counselling, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
    • Interest in education, training, and participation in research or research collaboration.
