    Summary

    • The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week)
    • Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

    Duties

    • The incumbent  provides administrative support to the Community Liaison Office (CLO).
    • Develops and maintains key contacts and manager information that benefits the morale and welfare of the Consulate.
    • Compiles, writes for, and publishes a monthly newsletter communicating information concerning community and Lagos activities, as well as places of interest in Nigeria.
    • Promote and advise Implementation of cross-cultural activities and provides expert advice on Nigerian culture and language to Consulate staff and family members.

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Requirements

    • Education Requirements: Completion of Secondary is required.
    • Experience: Minimum of 2 years work experience in an administrative position involving contract with the public or a customer services position is required.
    • Job Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the Nigeria and regional geography, history, cultural, customs and an overall knowledge of local resources for shopping, travel and leisure activities.
    • Evaluations:This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.
    • Language:  Good working knowledge reading/writing/speaking English is required. Good working knowledge reading/writing/speaking any of the local languages used in Lagos (Nigeria Pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo, Awori, or Hausa) is required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of pertinent Department of State and the Family Liaison Office (FLO) regulations, programs and policies is required.
    • Must have excellent communication (written and oral) skills;
    • Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with Mission staff at all levels, family members and vendors, etc.,
    • Strong organizational, planning and management skills;
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work without oversight;
    • Strong research skills, initiative, and independent judgement in performing administrative tasks; a
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective contact in local business and service communities. Proficient in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and possess skills or the ability to quickly acquire skills in Publisher, SharePoint etc.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25ubs when setting up venues for events such as beach day or the 4th July. party.

    Agency Benefits:

    • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
    • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
    • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

    Other Information:

    • Hiring Preference Selection Process:  Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below.  Therefore, it is essential that these applicants accurately describe their status on the application. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
    • ** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
