    Community Hygiene Promoter - Nganzai

    Location: Nganzai LGA

    Reports To: WASH Officer / Project Coordinator

    Contract Duration: 6 months

    Job Purpose:

    • The Community Hygiene Promoter is responsible for planning and executing hygiene promotion activities at the community level to encourage safe water use, sanitation practices, and improved personal and environmental hygiene. The role plays a critical part in reducing the risk of WASH-related diseases and improving overall public health in emergency and development contexts.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Mobilize communities and conduct hygiene promotion sessions targeting individuals, households, and public institutions (e.g., schools, IDP camps).
    • Disseminate key hygiene messages using participatory tools like dramas, focus group discussions, and visual aids.
    • Support the formation and training of hygiene committees and school health clubs.
    • Distribute hygiene kits and demonstrate their correct usage to beneficiaries.
    • Work with water committees to promote water safety, handwashing, latrine use, and solid waste management.
    • Monitor community practices and provide feedback to the WASH Officer on behavioral trends and challenges.
    • Participate in cholera or disease outbreak response campaigns with health teams.
    • Ensure all activities are inclusive, culturally sensitive, and aligned with SPHERE and WASH Cluster standards.
    • Keep daily records of sessions conducted, attendance, and feedback from community members.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • At least a secondary school certificate; a diploma in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related discipline is an advantage.
    • At least 1 year of experience in hygiene promotion or health education, preferably with NGOs.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, especially in community engagement and mobilization.
    • Fluent in the local language(s) of the intervention area.
    • Willingness to travel to hard-to-reach communities and work under pressure
    • Demonstrated ability to use local and participatory methods for behavior change
