    Community-Based Field Staff

    Duty Station: Maiduguri and Bama Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria

    Duration: 6 months

    Reports To: Field Supervisor / Project Manager

    Organization: Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Nigeria

    Job Summary

    The Community-Based Field Staff (CBFS) will complement the socio-economic reintegration activities implemented at the community level through direct interaction with beneficiaries, local leaders, and community structures. They will assist in community mobilization, sensitization, data verification, coordination of SME activities, and monitoring of in-kind assistance. Their role will ensure that project interventions are community-driven, conflict-sensitive, and inclusive of vulnerable groups.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Participate in community engagements and mobilizations for activities such as beneficiary selection, training,  awareness creation, and livelihood support programs.
    • Serve as a liaison between TPO Nigeria and community structures, including women’s associations, CBOs, youth groups, and religious/traditional leaders.
    • Provide support in the organization and documentation of household-level outreach during assessments or awareness creation.
    • Assist in the screening, profiling, and verification of beneficiaries in collaboration with enumerators and supervisors.
    • Coordinate logistical arrangements and field-level planning for distributions, trainings, and community meetings.
    • Monitor the usage and maintenance of distributed livelihood kits, solar bags, and other in-kind business support items.
    • Provide mentoring and follow-up support to beneficiaries receiving training in entrepreneurship, civic education, psychosocial support, and small business development.
    • Identify community concerns, feedback, or challenges and report them through the feedback and accountability mechanisms.
    • Support the setup and activities of business advisory centers, community-led monitoring committees, and complaint-feedback mechanisms.
    • Ensure that all project activities are implemented in line with TPO Nigeria’s conflict-sensitive, gender-inclusive, and environmentally sustainable approach.
    • Comply with all relevant TPO policies and procedures concerning child protection, health and safety, and other relevant policies
    • Perform any other duties that will be assigned by the supervisor

    Required Qualifications and Experience:

    • Minimum of a National Diploma (ND) or NCE in Social Work, Business Administration, Education, Psychology, or related fields. A bachelor's degree is a strong advantage.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience working in community development, livelihoods support, reintegration, or humanitarian programming, preferably in Northeast Nigeria.
    • Prior engagement with community-based organizations, cooperatives, or informal groups is highly desirable.

    Technical Skills:

    • Strong facilitation, mobilization, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to coordinate community trainings, meetings, and public sensitization activities.
    • Familiarity with the use of basic reporting tools and mobile data platforms.
    • Proficiency in English and at least one local language (Kanuri, Hausa, or Shuwa Arab preferred).

    Other Competencies:

    • Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity, particularly in post-conflict or traumatized communities.
    • Experience working with vulnerable populations such as survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), former associates of armed groups, and persons with disabilities.
    • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
    • Ability to travel within project locations, including remote and hard-to-reach communities.
    • Knowledge of SME development and clean energy promotion will be an added advantage.

    Working Conditions:

    • Field-based work with extensive engagement in local communities across Maiduguri and Bama LGAs.
    • May require irregular hours, including weekends, for community events.
