    Communications Manager

    Role Description:

    • The Communications Manager will lead the communications team of Step Up Nigeria. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring high visibility for all initiatives.
    • This role involves managing our monthly newsletter, YouTube channel shows and content on StepUpTV, our social media channels, our website, and the Step Up Podcast series.
    • It is a senior management role that comes with line management responsibilities, and the chosen candidate will support management in key decision-making.
    • Additionally, as this is a managerial role, you may be expected to work, attend senior management meetings, and training sessions, which may be scheduled on some Fridays.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Communication: Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy to enhance the visibility and impact of Step Up Nigeria’s initiatives, and ensure consistent messaging and alignment with organizational goals and values.
    • Content Management: Oversee the creation, curation, and dissemination of engaging content across various platforms increasing following growth on newsletters, social media, YouTube, and podcasts.
    • Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to maximize coverage of Step Up Nigeria’s activities.
    • Team Leadership: Lead and manage the communications team, providing guidance, setting targets, and ensuring the team’s overall effectiveness.
    • Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting: Implement metrics to track the success of communication campaigns, analyzing data to make informed decisions for continuous improvement.
    • Project Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams to execute significant projects or events. 
    • Fundraising: Improve sales of books, merchandise, and attract funding through quality content and visibility.

    Candidate Profile:

    • We are looking for a dynamic individual with a solid background in communications.
    • The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing communication strategies and overseeing implementation with a proficiency in social media, podcasting and storytelling.

    Education: 

    • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
    • A master’s degree is a plus.

    Experience:

    •  Minimum of 3 years in communications, with at least 1 year leading a team. Experience in the development communications and familiarity with anti-corruption efforts is preferred.

    Skills:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency in digital marketing and social media management.
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

    • Passion for anti-corruption initiatives.
    • Creativity and innovation in communication strategies.
    • Commitment to ethical communication practices.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships.

    Essential Criteria:

    • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful communication strategies.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage a team effectively, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • In-depth understanding of digital marketing trends, social media platforms, and content creation.
    • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with media professionals/funders.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant project & communication tools.
    • Knowledge of the Nigerian media landscape and an understanding of anti-corruption issues.
