Cleaner at Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA)

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Cleaners are required to undertake the following duties as directed by the Supervising Officer, using the prescribed methods and frequencies in line with the requirements of the cleaning specification.

The location of cleaning areas may need to be changed to meet the needs of the establishment. Cleaners can be required to work alone or in teams. Cleaners are not necessarily appointed to a specific location with the establishment.

Function & Responsibilities

• Emptying waste bins or similar receptacles, transporting waste material to designated collection points.
• Sweeping floors with brushes or dust control mops.
• Mopping floors with wet or damp mops.
• Suction cleaning carpeted areas and “spot” cleaning carpets.
• Using powered scrubbing and polishing machines to burnish, scrub, polish and spray clean floors
• To dust, damp wipe, wash or polish furniture, ledges, window sills, external surfaces of cupboards, radiators, shelves and fitments.
• To replenish consumable items (soap, toilet rolls, paper towels) if required within the contract.
• To clean toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, baths, showers and drinking fountains.
• The use of chemical agents as directed by the Supervising Officer in the discharge of cleaning operations or maintenance procedures, after receiving proper instructions and training.
•  To undertake wall washing or inside window pane cleaning to a height no greater than body height plus an arm’s extension from floor level, during periodic cleaning maintenance programs.
• To carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.

Implementation of prevention measures against abuse of power, gender-based and sexual violence:

• Ensures that his/her team, partners and community members are aware of ALIMA's policy and have access to information (complaint escalation mechanism, focal point...).
• Facilitates the organization of training and awareness sessions
• Implements standards related to the prevention of abuse of power, gender-based violence and sexual violence.
• Ensures that team members and partners involved in the project (Ministry of Health, national partners, etc.) follow training and awareness sessions and apply the rules for preventing abuse.
• Contributes to creating and maintaining a nurturing and protective environment for his/her team, community members and project partners.

EDUCATION

• A secondary school OR diploma is preferred.
• Experience as Cleaner for one-year
• Working in hotel as house-keeper is an advantage
