    Biology Teacher

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    Instruction and Curriculum

    • Develop and Deliver Lessons: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and comprehensive biology lessons, lectures, and interactive classroom activities that align with state and national curriculum standards.
    • Conduct Labs and Experiments: Organize, supervise, and lead hands-on laboratory experiments and scientific investigations, ensuring all safety protocols are strictly followed.
    • Integrate Technology: Utilize various instructional techniques, digital tools, and multimedia resources to accommodate different learning styles and enhance student engagement.
    • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the review, evaluation, and development of the biology and science department's curriculum, course content, and teaching materials.

    Student Assessment and Support

    • Assess Performance: Prepare, administer, and grade quizzes, tests, lab reports, and assignments to assess student progress and mastery of biological concepts.
    • Provide Feedback: Monitor student performance, provide constructive and timely feedback, and adjust teaching strategies to improve content delivery and student outcomes.
    • Individualized Support: Identify and address the diverse needs of students, including providing extra help, implementing remedial programs, or utilizing differentiated instructional practices.
    • Supervision: Establish and enforce guidelines for classroom and laboratory behavior, and supervise students during school-related activities like field trips or after-school clubs.

    Communication and Professionalism

    • Parent-Teacher Communication: Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians and administrators regarding student progress, academic goals, and behavioral concerns through conferences, calls, and written reports.
    • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other teachers, department heads, and school staff on curriculum integration, school initiatives, and student welfare.
    • Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including grades, attendance, and progress reports.
    • Professional Development: Attend departmental and school-wide meetings, training conferences, and workshops to stay current with advancements in biology, pedagogy, and educational best practices.

    Essential Skills and Requirements

    Category Skills & Traits Typical Requirements
    Knowledge Strong understanding of life science and biology. Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related science field.
    Teaching Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and student assessment. Valid state or national teaching certification for secondary education.
    Soft Skills Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills. Prior teaching experience (high school level preferred).
    Technical Proficiency with laboratory equipment, safety protocols, and educational technology (e.g., LMS, digital tools). Experience with specific curricula (e.g., AP Biology, IB Diploma Program) is a plus.
