The Mid-Level Architect plays a key role within the design team, leading the development of architectural schemes from concept through to technical design and construction. Working under the guidance of senior team members, the role involves client liaison, coordination with multidisciplinary consultants, and production of high-quality design deliverables across a range of construction project types.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of architectural design across RIBA Stages 2–5, producing drawings, models, and specifications to a high standard.
Prepare and present design proposals to clients, planning authorities, and internal stakeholders.
Manage and coordinate design information with structural, MEP, and other specialist consultants.
Prepare and submit planning applications and discharge of condition documents.
Produce technical packages including GA drawings, sections, details, and specifications for tender and construction.
Carry out site inspections during construction phase and manage technical queries and RFIs from the contractor.
Contribute to BIM coordination and model management in line with project BIM Execution Plans.
Assist in managing project budgets, design programmes, and resource planning.
Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, planning policy, and relevant legislation.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 3–5 years’ post-Part III experience in a construction-focused practice.
Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; experience with BIM Level 2 workflows.
Solid knowledge of UK Building Regulations, planning policy, and construction procurement processes.
Experience across RIBA stages with demonstrated ability to produce technical design packages.
Strong graphic communication and presentation skills (including Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent).
Experience in residential, commercial, or mixed-use development.
Knowledge of sustainability frameworks (BREEAM, Passivhaus, or equivalent).
