    Adjunct Faculty – Sociology

    ROLE OVERVIEW

    NUTM invites applications from highly qualified and dedicated individuals to join our adjunct faculty team in the Sociology department. As an adjunct faculty member, you will contribute to our students' intellectual and personal development, engage in scholarly activities, and foster critical thinking and analytical skills. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the advancement of sociological knowledge and prepare students for careers in various social sciences fields. This position is part-time and offers flexibility in scheduling.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Course development and instruction

    • Deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and discussions in various sociological subjects.
    • Facilitate meaningful class discussions, critical analysis, and student-centered learning activities.
    • Contribute to the development and enhancement of the sociology curriculum, ensuring its relevance to contemporary social issues and the needs of our students.
    • Develop innovative instructional materials, resources, and assessments that promote active learning and experiential education.
    • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values diverse perspectives and encourages student success.

    Mentorship and student evaluation

    • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students pursuing sociology majors, assisting with course selection, career planning, and opportunities for research and internships.
    • Design and administer assessments, exams, and projects to evaluate students' understanding of sociological concepts and theories.
    • Provide constructive feedback and grades in a timely manner.
    • Support students in developing critical thinking, research, and writing skills.

    Research and departmental duties

    • Engage in sociological research, scholarly activities, and professional development to contribute to the field's knowledge base.
    • Publish research findings in reputable journals, present at conferences, and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations.
    • Contribute to the university's academic community by participating in departmental meetings, committees, and other service activities.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to foster a culture of intellectual inquiry, promote interdisciplinary initiatives, and contribute to the university's academic reputation.

    PREFERRED CANDIDATE

    • A doctoral or master's degree in Sociology or a related social science field from an accredited institution is required.
    • Previous teaching experience at the college or university level is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to engage students, stimulate critical thinking, and create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
    • Demonstrated expertise in sociological theory, social research methods, and substantive areas within sociology.
    • Strong research skills and a record of scholarly contributions, such as publications, conference presentations, or grants, are advantageous.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex sociological concepts effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, colleagues, and the wider academic community.
    • A commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and the institution. The ability to engage with diverse student populations and promote a multicultural understanding of sociological issues.
