    Humanities Editor

    Job Summary

    • The Humanities Editor is responsible for developing, reviewing, and refining manuscripts within the humanities discipline, including subjects such as Literature, History, Government, Religious Studies, Civic Education, and related fields. The role ensures that all publications meet academic standards, curriculum requirements, editorial quality, and the company’s publishing objectives. The Humanities Editor works closely with authors, reviewers, designers, and the production team to deliver high-quality educational and general publications.

    Key Responsibilities

    Editorial & Content Development

    • Review, edit, and evaluate manuscripts for clarity, accuracy, structure, and consistency.
    • Ensure content aligns with approved curriculum standards and publishing guidelines.
    • Develop book concepts, outlines, and content briefs for new titles.
    • Provide constructive feedback to authors and contributors.

    Research & Quality Assurance

    • Verify facts, references, and sources for accuracy and credibility.
    • Ensure language, tone, and presentation suit the target audience.
    • Maintain consistency in style, grammar, and formatting according to house style.

    Project Coordination

    • Liaise with authors, proofreaders, graphic designers, and production staff.
    • Monitor editorial timelines and ensure projects are delivered within schedule.
    • Review page proofs and provide final approval before printing.

    Market & Curriculum Awareness

    • Conduct market research to identify trends and curriculum updates.
    • Recommend revisions and new titles to meet educational demands.
    • Support marketing team with content insights and book presentations where necessary.

    Compliance & Standards

    • Ensure publications comply with regulatory and educational authority guidelines.
    • Uphold intellectual property standards and avoid plagiarism.

    Job Requirements

    Educational Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in Humanities (e.g., English, History, Political Science, Religious Studies, or related field).
    • A Master’s degree is an added advantage.

    Experience

    • Minimum of 2–4 years editorial experience in a publishing firm.
    • Experience in educational or academic publishing is highly preferred.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong command of grammar, editing, and proofreading.
    • High attention to detail and analytical thinking.
    • Strong research and fact-checking skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic publishing tools.
    • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
