    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS & SCOPE OF WORK

    PROJECT INFORMATION

    Project Name: Pan African Youth Entrepreneur Development Program (PAYED) Program

    Project Locations: Nigeria (Abuja & Enugu)

    The Issue Project Addresses: Youth Entrepreneurship 

    Communications Activities: 30 days (Over a period of 9 Weeks) , May 21st -  July 20th, 2018

    Final Report Deadline: 20th July, 2018

    Reporting to: Project Coordinator – PAYED Program

    PROJECT BACKGROUND

    Two thirds of Nigeria’s 11 million unemployed youth are between 15 and 24 years old. Over half of the unemployed youth have not been educated beyond primary school. Dynamic young Nigerians today typically aspire to more traditional careers in finance, business, law or public service, and they continue to flood to the largest cities, however their aspirations are hindered by a skills gap and few job opportunities. National employment strategies point to promoting entrepreneurship and supporting appropriate skill building as demanded by labor markets.

    It is on this premise that the Pan African Youth Entrepreneur Development Program (PAYED Program) was created. The one-year program scaled best practices learned through the Mom & Pop Shop project and explored innovative activities that target youth and further enhance project results.

    The one-year project trained and provided support to 281 youth entrepreneurs who are owners, managers or employees of small, retail businesses on business and financial management skills.

    This Terms of Reference is for a contractor (referred as “Consultant” herein) to undertake the development of training materials for the

    OBJECTIVE OF ASSIGNMENT

    TechnoServe is in search of a highly qualified communications specialist to develop a communications strategy for a 2-day Pan African Youth Entrepreneur Development Program Summit (PAYED Summit) which will be hosted by TechnoServe in Abuja.

    The ideal consultant should have significant expertise in the field of communications in a Non – Governmental Organization.

     The objectives of the events are listed as follows:

    PAYED

    • To explore issues affecting youth entrepreneurship in Nigeria via the engagement of stakeholders.
    • To foster partnership and collaboration between micro businesses, financial institutions and industry stakeholders.
    • To raise awareness of the opportunities that exist in the entrepreneurship sector by sharing knowledge from PAYED case studies.
    • To serve as an opportunity for the recruitment of more participants for a potential PAYED 2.

    SCOPE OF WORK

    The Consultant will work very closely with the PAYED team to develop a communications strategy for the events, aimed at engaging both private and public sector stakeholders.

    The Consultant will undertake the responsibility of coordinating internal and external communication content for the PAYED Entrepreneurship Summit. It should be understood that the tasks outlined below are the key responsibilities, but the full scope of woks will be provided upon engagement.

    SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participate in the development of PAYED entrepreneurship events media plan.
    • Finalize local media press list
    • Adapt press kit as necessary for local media; release to local media
    • Adapt post-event press release as necessary for local media; release to local media
    • Determine interview availability for spokespersons.
    • Identify priority local outlets for interviews
    • Arrange interviews (print, radio, broadcast) with key spokespeople
    • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned

    TIMELINE

    This is a 30-days contract position based in Abuja that will span over a 9-week period.

     FORMAT FOR DELIVERABLES

    All deliverables shall be submitted electronically in editable formats.  If applicable, photographs or other graphics/figures in the reports will also be submitted as separate editable files.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Skills & Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years work experience in marketing and communications role, preferably in an international NGO or FMCG.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication or related field.
    • Knowledge of the international development sector
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, technical writing and communications skills.
    • Good network and contacts across various media channels, including social media
    • Teaching/sharing business knowledge for improving communication processes
    • Computer literacy with excellent MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
    • Graphical literacy with excellent skills using graphics and communication related software
