    IP Access Architect

    Division: Network Group

    Core purpose of the Job

    • To develop, drive and support optimal initiatives/projects to enhance, evolve, standardize and modernize the architectural design, planning and optimization of transmission/IP network infrastructure to improve business’s performance.
    • To interpret business requirements into technical network solutions framework; providing technology road-maps governed by strategic business direction and requirements, as well as resourcing and financial considerations.

    Job Summary

    • Design and direct implementation of cost effective and efficient transmission system
    • High level support in resolving the teething problem with the migration from TDM to IP network
    • Provide high level technical planning support to IP and transmission access planning
    • Consolidate planning information for regulatory reconciliation
    • Maintain capacity and functionality requirements timeously and ahead of traffic needs for transport network
    • Continuously ensure optimal routing of traffic end to end over the transport network
    • Scalable processes and workflows for planning IP resources across various MTNN regions.
    • Suggestions for transport network expansion/re-dimensioning, and quality-related fault resolution
    • Documentation of High and Low Level transport network designs across MTNN regions.
    • Regional transport network performance report
    • Understand the capabilities and limitations of new technologies, applying best practices when designing the transmission network
    • Request funding (PPOE) and issue request for proposal(RfP) to vendor, verify bill of material and confirm order of equipment and services
    • Drive the strategy for next generation transmission network to ensure end to end Ethernet/IP functionality
    • Develop a system of KPI & measurement systems for weekly, monthly performance evaluation of transport networks (microwave, fiber, copper, satellite and packet)
    • Develop procedure for feature/quality test for use by responsible parties
    • Analyze trial and determine the type of equipment to be used to deliver efficient and effective transport system.
    • Provide guidelines for implementing newly introduced transport system
    • Develop evolution path to NGN (New Generation Network) equipment for PMP, PTP, WiMaX, Ethernet Microwave radio, IPRAN etc
    • Develop concept for new technology/solution introduction into the transport network and see through the process from initiation to approval
    • Ensure evaluation and specification of new Access and Core Backbone Transmission Network Features

    Vendor meeting engagement

    • Participate in the translation of the transmission strategy and architecture into near term plans
    • Ensure translation of high level plan to low level design
    • Interpreting the business direction and applying it to platform and network capacity management and optimization on TDM/IP/Ethernet network.
    • Ensure alignment with Radio, Core (transmission) & IP designs
    • Transmission Solution Reviews to align with the business objective
    • Define, develop and integrate transmission projects into the MTNN network architecture to meet Customer requirements and optimize MTNN network architecture
    • Develop framework for consolidated transport network NMS Faults, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security Managements (FCAPS)
    • Network and build solid relationships with internal units and relevant third parties (e.g. strategic investors, technical and finance partners, business consultants etc.) and develop a close working relationship with relevant information sources to provide an integrated service.
    • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external suppliers.

    Education

    • First degree in the Sciences preferably in Engineering.
    • Professional level certification in IP/MPLS technology e.g. CCNP/CCIP/JNCIP required. (Expert level preferred e.g CCIE/JNCIE preferred).
    • Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei, Tellabs & other vendor specific technology training and certification will be an advantage
    • Project Management (PMP) certification will be an advantage

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an area of specialisation; with experience working with others
    • Experience working in a medium& organization
    • Experience in a delivery-driven communications network environment.
    • Experience of transmission access network planning i.e. microwave/fibre design/planning
    • Experience of packet network i.e. Ethernet/ IP/MPLS design/planning
    • Sound understanding of Telecom standards and hands-on knowledge of IP transport mechanisms
    • Good knowledge of Aviat, Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei and Tellabs transmission solution and products and future roadmap of transmission technology.
    • Stakeholder relationship management; customer service experience and orientation
    • Working with Cross functional Project team, lead projects and solution deployment for transmission
    • In-depth knowledge of transport technologies: Microwave radio transmission, Optical transport network, IP/MPLS networks, ATM and IP protocols and Gbit Ethernet, MAN and NGN Technologies
    • Know how to use software design tools for microwave, fibre and IP planning
    • Good knowledge of 2G, 3G, WiMAX & LTE network and systems architecture
    • Good knowledge of various NE’s (MSC, MGW, HLR, SGSN, GGSN etc) and understand traffic concepts, networks, nodes and inter-working

    Job Conditions

    • General MTN N working conditions.
