Engagement: Freelance / Contract
Reports to: Lead Technology Officer
Nikki Partners is supporting the development of a new UK-based healthcare and aesthetics marketplace designed to make discovering and booking qualified, verified practitioners easier, safer and more transparent.
The platform brings patients and practitioners together through a seamless digital experience, combining practitioner discovery, verification, bookings, payments and practice management.
The product already has an established prototype, defined user journeys, detailed requirements and a clear visual direction.
We are now moving into production and looking for a talented Product UI/UX Designer to help bring that experience to life.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a designer who knows how to turn complex digital products into intuitive, polished and consistent user experiences.
This is not a project starting from a blank canvas.
You'll inherit an existing product and work on refining, completing and preparing it for production.
That means understanding what's already been designed, identifying opportunities for improvement, resolving usability inconsistencies, completing missing interface states and creating a coherent design system that engineers can confidently build from.
You'll work closely with our Lead Technology Officer, with the opportunity to contribute directly to the experience of a growing digital platform.
We're looking for someone who brings both creative judgement and practical product thinking — someone who understands that great design isn't always about changing everything, but about making the right things better.
What You'll Work On
The platform serves patients, independent practitioners, clinics and internal administrators.
Your work will span several connected product experiences:
- Marketplace & Discovery: Search, filters, practitioner profiles, treatment information and public-facing pages.
- Onboarding & Verification: Patient and practitioner registration, professional verification, evidence submission and account setup.
- Bookings & Payments: Availability, calendars, consultations, checkout, confirmations, rescheduling, cancellations and refunds.
- Dashboards & Operations: Practitioner and clinic management, subscriptions, payouts, analytics and administrative interfaces.
- Communication & Aftercare: Messaging, notifications, private media, reviews, aftercare and dispute journeys.
- Responsive Experience: Consistent desktop, tablet and mobile interfaces, including Progressive Web App considerations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review our existing prototype and identify opportunities to improve usability, consistency and visual quality.
- Refine layouts, typography, spacing, navigation, forms, dashboards and interaction patterns.
- Complete missing screens and interface states, including loading, empty, pending, success, error, restricted and offline states.
- Ensure user journeys feel intuitive, connected and consistent across the platform.
- Develop and maintain a reusable, production-ready design system.
- Create responsive designs for desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Incorporate accessibility principles, with WCAG 2.2 AA as the target.
- Prepare organised Figma files, components and specifications for development.
- Specify the appropriate use of icons from the platform's existing visual asset library.
- Collaborate closely with our Lead Technology Officer to support implementation.
- Review developed interfaces and provide design QA to ensure consistency with approved designs.
Requirements
We're particularly interested in designers with experience building or refining complex digital products, not just marketing websites or landing pages.
You should have:
- At least 3 years of relevant UI/UX or digital product design experience.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful product design and attention to detail.
- Experience designing complex web applications, dashboards, multi-step workflows, forms and account-based interfaces.
- A solid understanding of responsive design, interaction patterns and accessibility.
- Experience building reusable design systems and component libraries.
- The ability to translate complex requirements into clear, intuitive interfaces.
- Experience collaborating with developers and preparing designs for implementation.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to explain your design decisions.
- Experience with marketplaces, healthcare platforms, booking systems, SaaS, fintech or other regulated products is an advantage, but not essential.
- Formal academic qualifications are welcome but not essential. Demonstrated product design skills, relevant experience and a strong portfolio are our priorities.
Figma Proficiency
Figma will be your primary design environment, so strong practical proficiency is essential.
We're looking for experience with:
- Auto Layout and responsive constraints
- Components, variants and variables
- Reusable component libraries
- Interactive prototyping
- Design systems
- Developer handoff and Dev Mode
The Person We're Looking For
Beyond technical skills, we're looking for someone who:
- Takes ownership: You manage your work independently and take responsibility for delivering high-quality results.
- Thinks like a product designer: You consider the entire user experience, not just how individual screens look.
- Understands when not to redesign: You recognise what already works and improve it without introducing unnecessary complexity.
- Pays attention to detail: Consistency, usability and small interactions matter to you.
- Collaborates effectively: You welcome feedback and work constructively with engineering.
- Is proactive: You identify gaps, raise questions and suggest thoughtful solutions.
- Delivers reliably: You communicate progress clearly and work towards agreed milestones.
Key Deliverables
Your contributions will help establish a production-ready design foundation for the platform, including:
- Refined and completed product interfaces
- Missing screens and interaction states
- Responsive desktop, tablet and mobile designs
- A consistent, reusable design system
- Organised Figma component libraries
- Clear interaction and developer handoff specifications
- Accessibility considerations
- Design quality assurance during implementation
We're looking for a proactive, detail-oriented designer who takes ownership, delivers high-quality work and enjoys solving complex product challenges.
If you're ready to help bring an ambitious digital platform to life, we'd love to hear from you.
