    Store Keeper

    Program / Department Summary

    • Mercy Corps Nigeria’s North East program aims to assist populations affected by the crisis in Northeast Nigeria. With funding from humanitarian donors including OFDA, FFP, and ECHO the humanitarian programs engage in several interventions including but not limited to food assistance, logistics and relief commodities, protection, livelihoods, WASH and capacity building of humanitarian response actors.
    • Mercy Corps plans to scale up and expand its humanitarian response in Northeast Nigeria to reach more beneficiaries with additional and varied assistance in a wider geographic area.

    General Position Summary

    • The Store Keeper will be responsible for assisting the Warehouse Manager in managing warehouse activities and keeping the food and non-food items stored in it according to donor regulation as well as Mercy Corps procedures&policies. Together with Warehouse Manager,
    • He/she will fill out and maintain warehouse ledger, stack bin card, tally sheet, waybill and all related warehouse documents, oversee day to day warehouse operations, coordinate daily labour, conduct stock reconciliation on a daily basis and transactions carried out in the warehouse meet the required standard.

    Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Assist Warehouse Manager in daily warehouse operation as instructed.
    • Supervise commodity loading and off-loading and complete documentation.
    • Supervise commodity reconstitution and ensure broken containers and slake/torn bags are immediately reconstituted, weighed and re-bagged properly.
    • Conduct daily inspections of the condition of the warehouse, looking for holes in and damage to the roof, windows, and/or doors. Requests and ensure immediate repair of any such defects detected during the daily inspection.
    • Ensure to dispatch commodities as per approved distribution/delivery plan to designated distribution points.
    • Ensure that all incoming commodities are received against waybills and proper remarks are made on the waybills stating any irregularity or discrepancy between the original condition of the commodities and their condition at the time of receipt.
    • If required, prepare waybills for all outgoing/dispatching commodities and obtain signatures from truck drivers and/or other receiving authority.
    • Ensure to maintain sufficient stock of supplies medicines, stationary, equipment, non-food items and general items to meet day to day demand.
    • Maintain accurate and up to date records of store items including proper use of stack cards to mention physical stock of commodity
    • Register all receipts / delivers and ensure that proper documentation is completed.
    • Ensure that all necessary equipment such as scales, filing cabinets, torches and materials such as cleaning materials, stationeries, rodent control materials and office furniture are supplied to the warehouse.
    • Ensure that the warehouse is kept clean at all times and clean from all dirty and dust that can attract or harbor rodents
    • Attend internal and external coordination meeting as needed.
    • Represent Mercy Corps in a professional manner to suppliers, government officials, local and international community groups, suppliers, the UN and others as needed.
    • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
    • Carry out any other duties as assigned from time to time.

    Finance & Compliance Management

    • Ensure compliance with donor and Mercy Corps regulations related to emergency programming.
    • Draft and/or review scope of work to hire and manage any technical consultants, including review for technical efficacy and contract budget.

    Influence &Representation:

    • Identify, build and manage collaborative partnerships with consortium partners, sub-grantees, donors, local governments and other stakeholders.
    • Communicate effectively to ensure overall project targets and donor obligations are met.

    Security:

    • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership.
    • Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Must have minimum two years of experience working in a warehouse, handling food and non-food commodities
    • A clear understanding of warehouse ethics and donor compliance is essential.
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Good interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills
    • Strong computer skills on MS office programs, excel, MS word.
    • Good oral and written skills as well as Fluency in English; fluency in Hausa is required

    Success Factors:

    • The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude.Ideally, S/he will have previous experience in working in large-scale emergency programs in insecure and conflict-affected contexts, willingness to be flexible and adjust schedule as per program needs.
    • Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours.
    • Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
