    Research Assistants

    Location:                           Borno ( Biu, Dikwa, Monguno & Damasak), Adamawa (Mubi)

    Supervisor:                       EAI Team Leader

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    EAI is currently recruiting for 10 Research Assistants to provide research and organizational support to current survey activities in Borno State (Biu, Dikwa, Monguno & Damasak) and Adamawa State (Mubi). The Research Assistant will primarily be responsible for collecting field data, through direct contact with program respondents, ensuring that this data is of the highest quality.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Pre-Enumeration Duties

     The Research Assistants will be required to attend a ‘Research Assistant Workshop’ in Maidiguri, Borno State to ensure that they have a full understanding of the survey assignment, research methodologies, data collection tools, survey questionnaires, Focus Group Discussion guidelines, activity plans, data entry requirements, smartphone usage, management of the data collection app.

     The Research Assistant will receive the enumeration materials and equipment from the EAI Program Team Leader.

     The Research Assistant will be required to develop and manage a Survey and Focus Group Discussion schedule/itinerary for the duration of the assignment.

    Enumeration Duties

    • Undertake data collection efforts in Borno State ( Biu, Dikwa, Monguno & Damasak) and Adamawa State (Mubi), locate and select respondents within both rural and urban populations.
    • Conduct one-on-one interviews with respondents and arrange for small Focus Group Discussion events, recording the responses as required and ensuring that there is a key focus on accuracy and quality.

    Post Enumeration Duties

    • Ensure that all respondent data, obtained from one-on-one interviews and Focus Group Discussions is entered and recorded accurately; and that all respondent interviews assigned have been completed (this includes follow up questions to clarify or correct missing information)
    • Confirm that all survey questionnaires and data collection tools assigned have been completed, submitted and accounted for; this includes smartphones and any hard copy documents.
    • Turn over any and all literature and materials utilized during the surveys and Focus Group Discussions to the responsible EAI Program Team Leader.
    •  Identify and document best practices and lessons learned that can be successfully replicated and assist EAI with future surveys.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
    • At least 5 years’ experience working with international donor-funded projects in the capacity of Surveyor and experience with digital data collection tools.
    • Highly organized individual, capable of handling multiple priorities, meeting deadlines and managing time effectively.
    • Experience in handling and managing digital data collection tools, while also possessing the ability to master new technology and new tools as required.
    • Familiarity with the use of an Android tablet or smartphone for the purposes of surveys.
    • Willingness to travel to Biu, Dikwa, Monguno & Damasak in Borno State and Mubi in Adamawa State.
    • Strong creative and analytical skills and ability to work both independently or as an effective team player.
    • Superior organizational and management skills: ability to multi-task; manage responsibilities to deadlines; apply results oriented problem-solving approaches; and collaborate effectively as a team member
    • Strong work ethic, impeccable integrity and sense of accountability
    • Speaks and writes one or more of the following languages: Hausa, Kanuri, Babur-Bura with preference provided for additional Shuwa Arabic, Marghi and Fulfulde language skills; English is spoken and written skills also desired.
    • Outstanding communication, writing and research skillsets.
    • Able to undertake travel to the project locations as required and able to work under extreme pressure and deadlines
