    Roving Protection Team Leader

    Job Description

    • The Protection Team Leader will be part of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Protection Team and will work under the guidance and supervision of Protection Manager. She/he will be based in Maiduguri or Damaturu to provide the field team constant support.
    • She/he will have an important role in implementation of protection activities including protection monitoring, protection awareness, referral pathways, provision of individual protection assistance, support to displaced communities as well as conducting training and capacity building for duty bearers.
    • Close coordination with the different protection actors and represent the organizations at the PSWG meetings.
    • She/he will assist in the establishment of effective community-based structures in support of the protection programme.
    • He/she will support the field team through constant field visit to project sites.
    • The Protection Team Leader is also responsible for the design and implementation of rapid protection assessments in their areas of responsibility, analysis of protection monitoring information and report writing.
    • Finally, the Protection Team Leader supervises Protection Officers and Protection Assistants. This is a roving field position.

    Responsibilities

    • Monitor and supervise the implementation of Project activities at the field level, including appropriate documentation and management of protection cases (recorded incidents), protection concern forms, IPA, Activity reports and all other protection related forms.
    • Ensure that all protection documentation is inputted on Kobo by assistants and officers.
    • Develop together with the team clear work plans on a weekly and monthly basis.
    • Merge protection activity plans with fleet movement plans and ensure relevant security clearance by liaising with safety.
    • Prepare and compile weekly, monthly donor reports on project activities on a timely manner and share this with the relevant managers including the Protection Coordinator/Manager.
    • Ensure case management procedures are followed including IPA review and case conferencing.
    • Ensure Management of individual cases and appropriate documentation and filling including inputted in Kobo and case trackers.
    • Follow up all referrals and track effective referrals. Liaise with relevant partners to procure services for cases by initiating communication with the concerned agencies for further assistant to the affected communities.
    • Ensure proper protection monitoring activities informed by protection trends. Coordinate the entire protection monitoring exercise, analyze and compile report and liaise with the protection coordinator for technical support.
    • Provide trainings/capacity building to duty bearers, international and local NGOs and IDP communities on protection related issues (guiding principles of IDP protection; child protection; SGBV etc.);
    • Collect and maintain project data ensuring the highest standards of data protection and confidentiality;
    • Support with occasional document translation and provide interpretation support to Protection Manager/Coordinator during meetings, trainings, and other project activities.
    • Represent protection department in various partner coordination meetings including PSWG, MHPSS and government line ministries as relevant.
    • Coordinate with other DRC sectors to strengthen the protection response in your area of responsibility.
    • Be the protection mainstreaming focal point for your area of responsibility and all funds in relation to this are included in spending plans and workplans.
    • Be the gender mainstreaming and PSEA focal point if and when needed.
    • Ensure appropriate donor visits are well planned for, logistics and activities set up when required.
    • Ensure specific donor activities are implemented as required. (WFP, ECHO, DFID, SDC, Danish TV).
    • Actively analyze protection risks trends and link this with emerging needs of the community, inform relevant management for technical support.
    • Carry out advocacy activities within protection spectrum in collaboration with protection coordinator.
    • Coordinate all protection activities in your area of responsibility as per agreed outcomes with the Area Programme Manager and Protection Coordinator.
    • Support Management in carrying out all other duties assigned including acting roles

    Key Requirements
    Essentials:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Law, Psychology, Social work, Social Sciences, Counselling, Education, Human Rights, Development Studies or relevant equivalent disciplines.
    • 2 yrs. Work experience in a humanitarian organization / with displacement affected populations or significant experience as a DRC Protection social or outreach worker
    • Knowledge of protection norms, principles, and activities
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and writing)
    • Professional fluency in English and Hausa
    • Ability and willingness to maintain regular presence at project sites (remote / field sites) and to work during irregular working hours and in insecure environments
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills – self-motivated individuals, able to take initiative and propose solutions, resilient, positive, and able to work independently.
    • Skills and experience in Assessment, delivery, monitoring, review and evaluation, working with refugees or IDPs
    • Good facilitation/training skills; experience designing and delivering training curricula, preferably focused on adult learning;
    • Ability and willingness to maintain regular presence at project sites and to work during irregular working hours and in insecure environments.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation skills Self-motivated, able to take initiative positive attitude, resilient and able to work independently.
    • English (professional fluency)
    • Hausa (professional fluency)

    Desirables:

    • 3-5 years of experience in managing/supervising field staff, planning and implementation of activities in complex emergencies
    • Must have basic to intermittent computer skills level.
    • Other local languages spoken in North East Nigerian states.

    Salary and Conditions

    • Availability: June 15th 2019
    • In accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment;
    • The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigeria laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
