British Council Call for Theatre Producers and Companies (Grants Application)
Are you a theatrical producer? Can you manage all aspects of mounting a theatre production?
For four years, the British Council has been working on theatre projects in Nigeria fostering exchange and collaboration been Nigerian and British artists and presenting cutting-edge British theatre in Lagos. In 2013, the British Council presented Lagos Theatre Festival at Eko Hotel, an ambitious showcase of site-specific theatre by both Nigerian and British artists. The 2014 edition of the Festival took place at Freedom Park and saw four productions inspired by Lagos take place over three days.
The theme for Lagos Theatre Festival 2016 is Inspired by the Future and the British Council is seeking Theatre Companies to produce work at Freedom Park and the University of Lagos of Lagos amongst other locations. The British Council will support successful applicants with a grant of between N500,000 – N1,000,000.
Students and academics that are passionate about working outside of conventional theatre and gallery spaces are encouraged to apply. Companies that can bring in additional funding from other sources will be at an advantage.
Lagos Theatre Festival 2016 will run from 23 – 28 February 2016.
Send us a 600-word statement telling us about your career in the theatre sector and links to relevant work as well as an outline of additional funding that you might be able to draw on. The statement should include your name, phone number and email address. It should be sent as a word attachment to email@example.com with the subject line ‘Lagos Theatre Festival 2016 Grant Application’.
A panel will make a selection of the proposals. We will respond to all candidates by August 20, 2016.
Upon selection, the artist/company will be required to attend a mandatory series of workshops ahead of the festival. Selected artists will be supported to present their work and will have access to our venue, technical, production and promotional support. The Lagos Theatre Festival Team reserves the right to reject any application.
Send your application before midnight on Saturday, August 15.
