    Job Description

    Assistant Driller

    Job Description

    The hiring entity for this position is Pacific Drilling’s Nigerian affiliate, Pacific International Drilling West Africa Limited.

    Position Summary:

    Assist the Driller in the planning and execution of all drilling operations for the main or auxiliary well centers.     Position Summary

     

    The 3rd Engineer is in charge of executing preventative/corrective maintenance tasks and ongoing maintenance repairs to equipment pertaining to power plant, dynamic positioning systems, living quarter’s equipment, and performs watch stander duties.

     

    Position Scope

     

    The 3rd Engineer executes the preventative / corrective maintenance tasks and ongoing maintenance repairs in his / her area of responsibility. He/She also verifies the entries in the Oil Record Book and Engine Room Logbook are correct, and performs watch stander duties when required.

     

    Qualifications and Experience

     

    • Two years of offshore / merchant navy experience, preferably on a dynamically positioned drilling vessel and worked in the position of 2nd Engineer (3rd Engineer Non US).
    • An unlimited horsepower Second Engineer’s (Third class motor STCW A-III/1) watch keeping license/certificate of competency, without limitations of horsepower, issued by his/her National Maritime Administration in compliance with the STCW Code.
    • Medium voltage experience (1000V or higher).
    • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)

    The Driller is in charge of the drill crew and the rig floor area. He/She is responsible for operating all drilling hoisting and mud circulating equipment, following directions from the well program in accordance with Pacific Drilling policies and procedures, in a safe and efficient manner. 

    Position Scope:

    The driller is assigned to the main well center (aft) and is in charge of the rig floor area.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Five years offshore experience including two as a driller on a floating dynamically positioned rig (preferably drillship).
    • Valid Fundamental Well Control Certification. NOV 6th generation cyber chair experience.
    • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)
    • Nigerian In Country – resident
    • Fluent English communication skills (both oral and written)

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    • Act as a Safety Leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks with a special focus on Well Control, Permit to Work and Isolation procedures.
    • Ensure that operations are planned, organized, supervised and executed in accordance with well programs, rig move plans, Pacific Drilling requirements and contractual obligations.
    • Monitor the well condition at all times (i.e. keep the hole full, depth, mud weight, weight on bit, circulating volumes, etc..). Interpret and respond to downhole conditions.
    • Perform drilling related operations such as but not limited to directional drilling, working stuck pipe, running and cementing casing strings, coring, fishing, wireline logging, well testing.
    • Maintain accurate record of tubular and tool dimensions in the hole (for instance but not limited to : internal and external diameter, fish neck, serial numbers)
    • Ensure the solid control equipment and mud mixing operations are being monitored constantly and keep accurate records of fluid displacement when running tubular in or out of the hole.
    • Promote and maintain a good working relationship with Client representative onboard, follow standard instructions and inform Toolpusher and Client representative of any concern, ensuring any deviation is properly communicated and documented.
    • Implement,  follow  and  regularly  review  Pacific  Drilling  work instructions,  ensure  they  are understood and observed by all drill crews.
    • Demonstrate leadership support for Pacific Drilling’s Competence Management Program and implement all program requirements to ensure direct reports have the necessary competencies, training and skills to perform their job. 
    • Hold daily pre-tour meeting and pre-job meetings as often as required by the operations. When a deviation from the planned operations is necessary, stop the work, regroup and obtain approval prior to plan and implement the deviation.
    • Supervise all preventive maintenance or maintenance repairs occurring on drilling equipment.
    • Plan and coordinate well control drills and ensure Well Control emergency procedures and responses are fully implemented and crew competencies/tickets valid and current.
    • Manage the daily IADC drilling report and ensure the morning drilling report is correct.

    Chief Electronic Manager

    Job Description

    Position Summary:

    The Chief Electronic Manager is in charge of installing, repairing and maintaining all electronic equipment onboard the vessel.

    Position Scope:

    The Chief Electronic Manager  coordinates the preventative and corrective maintenance on the electronic related equipment, communicates regularly with the other departments (IT, mechanical, electrical, engine room, subsea, drilling, marine and safety) as well as the client and other service partners when required.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    • Maintain workshop equipment/tools to the highest safety standards.
    • Perform daily visual inspections of equipment and prevent/rectify actual and potential malfunctions, and report potentially dangerous conditions to his/her supervisor.
    • Coordinate planning and execution of ET preventative maintenance with a minimum of 6-week overview to cover current hitch and half of back-to back hitch, keeping an updated and accurate historical record of all maintenance done as well as all ET equipment certification documents.
    • Inform supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig.
    • Ensure ET has all necessary competencies, training and skills to perform his tasks, provide assistance and training to the ET in the operation and maintenance of equipment, and regularly appraise and provide feedback.  
    • Ensure that operations are planned, organized, supervised and executed in accordance with well programs, rig move plans, Pacific Drilling requirements and contractual obligations.

    Chief Mate

    Job Description

    The hiring entity for this position is Pacific Drilling’s Nigerian affiliate, Pacific International Drilling West Africa Limited.

    Position Summary:

    Assist the Master in exercising effective control over the vessel’s marine operations with due regard for safety of personnel, maintenance of vessel equipment, and protection of the environment.

    Qualifications and Experience: 

    • Valid Unlimited Chief Mate’s License acceptable by vessel flag state, GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate, Nautical Institute Dynamic Positioning Training courses, a Nautical Institute DP Certificate, and other regulatory and non-regulatory courses.
    • Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the marine aspect of the vessel.
    • All STCW 95 required training for Chief Mate for vessel class and flag requirements.
    • An endorsement issued by the flag authority for recognition of Foreign COC without restrictions.
    • Valid Ship Security Officer’s Certificate.
    • Prior experience on a drillship is highly recommended but not mandatory for the position.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    • Ensure conformance to local / international laws relating to the vessel’s operation, and strictly comply with current pollution regulations.
    • Oversee the maintenance of deck equipment, fire fighting and life saving equipment, lifting equipment and vessel’s exterior maintenance.
    • Ensure materials and equipment loaded onboard are safely stowed, secured and labeled according to Regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure the vessel is seaworthy at all times and maintained / operated in accordance with Pacific Drilling guidelines.
    • Maintain the watertight integrity of the vessel, loading and storage of consumables, securing of supply vessels, safe operation of helicopters, etc
    • Ensure the vessel is maintained within normal and safe limits of intact and damage stability, shear stress and bending moments.  
    • Assist the Master in ensuring the navigational equipment is maintained, fully functional, and that testing and calibration is carried out.
    • Assist the Master in maintaining the vessel’s logbook, maintenance reports and other vessel documents as directed.
    • Understudy the Master and deputize when he / she is indisposed. Supervise the DPO’s activities and perform the duties of a DPO when required.  
    • Be capable of performing DP Incident Investigation.
    • Be capable of planning, executing and leading DP trials and drills, including Blackout Recovery.
    • Inspect, test and maintain all firefighting equipment and life saving appliances – ensure readiness for immediate use when required. •
    • Ensure compliance with environmental protection requirements as specified by Company Policies and Regulatory bodies.
    • Ensure that the company QHSE Policies and other programs are communicated to and understood by all rig personnel.
    • Assist the Master in all emergency situations and emergency protection responses.
    • Assist the Master in coordinating weekly emergency drills along with monitoring and evaluating the crew training and progress.

    Crane Operator

    Job Description

    Position Summary

    Crane Operators are responsible for all crane and lifting operations aboard the ship and the conduct of these operations in accordance with Pacific Drilling company policies and procedures.  This includes the supervision of all roustabouts and ensuring that all deck operations proceed in a safe and efficient manner.

    Position Scope

    Crane Operators are responsible for the safe and orderly operation of all cranes and lifting gear aboard the ship at the immediate discretion of the Deck Pusher(s) and Tool Pusher(s). This includes keen oversight of all crane and boat operations, stowage of deck cargo, bulk material transfers, organization of drilling equipment, maintenance on all cranes and lifting gear, and adequate housekeeping in all related spaces.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Minimum two years’ experience as offshore crane operator on a floating unit.
    • NOV knuckle boom crane experience.
    • Senior School certificate (SSCE)/ West Africa Examination Council (WAEC)/ GCE O/L, OND in Nigeria is equivalent of 2 years associate degree in U.S., while HND or BSc is for 4 years (with at least 120 credits/units)

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the crane (s) and supervising all roustabouts
    • Ensure Drill Floor and other departments about the rig receive the equipment necessary for its efficient operation
    • Conduct all lifting and deck operations in accordance with Pacific standards and procedures
    • Inspect crane structure and boom and wires for damage before each use, also conduct functional checks of crane safety devices. (i.e. gauges, indicators, limit switches, cables, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems in cranes).
    • Ensure that all items to being lifted are provided with appropriate lifting points and  are correctly rigged with certified gear (i.e. slings, straps, shackles, wire ropes, etc). Subsequently ensure lifted loads are clear of obstructions, balanced, and properly controlled with tag lines.
    • Provide Roustabouts with relevant instructions for current and forthcoming operations.
    • Notify  the  Deck  Pusher  and  Bridge  personal  prior  to  moving  gantry  crane(s),  lifting  or transferring heavy equipment, or moving other materials that may affect the rig’s stability.
    • Carry  out  Preventive  Maintenance  tasks  on  the  cranes  and  other  related  components  or equipment. Maintain detailed log of all maintenance records
    • Oversee housekeeping on pipe deck, main deck, and all spaces related to deck and cargo operations.
    • Dutifully report any unsafe practices, any incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situation with cranes and lifting operations to supervisor
