    Head Teacher, IITA International School (Ref No: DDG-PCD/HT/IIS/02/15)

    Background and Responsibilities
    The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the internationally recruited position of Head Teacher, IITA International School.

    The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks a highly qualified and experienced Head Teacher to provide professional leadership for its international school which secures its success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its pupils and good standards of learning and achievement.

    Position Responsibilities:
    • Work closely with Management to ensure that the school vision and strategic plan are effective and pertinent to the school's goals. They should be clearly articulated, shared, understood and acted upon effectively by all.
    • Work within the school community to translate the vision into agreed objectives and operational plans which will promote and sustain continual school improvement and a sense of team ownership.
    • Ensure that strategic planning takes account of the diversity, values and experience of the school and community at large.
    • Manage effectively all aspects and change processes for a successful school.
    • Develop and implement a broad and relevant curriculum and innovative approaches to teaching and learning to meet the needs of all students; monitor and evaluate the curriculum for both quality and value for money.
    • Ensures creativity, innovation and the use of appropriate new technologies and initiatives to achieve excellence.
    • Implement appropriate prevention, preparedness, and health and safety practices.
    • Build and maintain effective partnerships between school, students and parents to support learning.
    • Have overall responsibility for the management and performance of the school; ensure that management, finances and administration of the school supports its vision and aims.
    • Manage performance, utilising all staff effectively, challenging and addressing underperformance whilst providing for the continuous professional development of all staff.
    • Ensure that educational provision and achievement for pupils with special needs are maximized through an appropriate mix of integrated and specialist needs provision; Motivates and works with others to create a shared culture and positive climate.
    • Build a collaborative learning culture and, with other schools, agencies and partners (especially with the schools within Ibadan and Lagos) continue to build effective learning communities to promote excellence in teaching and learning.
    • Carry out any duties as may be reasonably required by the Supervisor.

    Qualification and Experience
    The candidate should have a qualification in education of at least MA level from a recognised university, and at least 5 years of experience in teaching/headship including international experience.

    Nigeria Project Manager (DDG-R4D/NPM/YIIFSWA/04/15)

    Background and Responsibilities
    The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the position of Nigeria Project Manager.

    IITA seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual with experience in management of interdisciplinary and national projects to serve as ‘Nigeria Project Manager’ for an ongoing Project ‘Yam Improvement for Income and Food security in West Africa (YIIFSWA)’ supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). The principal focus of this project is on establishing sustainable commercial seed yam systems in Nigeria and Ghana.

    The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate project activities of partners in Nigeria to ensure that outputs are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality assurance standards according to the agreed annual work plans and budgets. The position is for 18 months and the Nigeria Project Manager will report to the YIIFSWA Project Leader.

    Position Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate an inter-disciplinary, national project team; manage financial assets and ensure implementation of YIIFSWA in Nigeria as per the project annual work plan and budget.
    • Represent the YIIFSWA Project Manager at technical or scientific events organized by the project partners or other relevant meetings in Nigeria, as directed by the Project Leader (PL).
    • Facilitate implementation of project activities in Nigeria by closely monitoring project execution with partners and providing feedback to the PL on the status and advising on action to be taken with regard to project’s progress.
    • Manage contracts between the Project and national partners; and ensure synergy between project national partners.
    • Ensure effective communication among national partners of the project, identify shortfalls and devise contingency plans.
    • Serve as liaison officer between the project management, country authorities, visitors and the project partners.
    • Assist the PL with the necessary arrangements in hosting visitors, scheduling appointments and coordinating travel arrangements; planning project workshops, meetings, surveys and monitoring tours in Nigeria and responding to inquiries.
    • Monitor and evaluate project activities regularly in Nigeria and report immediately on observed challenges and opportunities to PL.
    • Submit monthly reports to the PL on activities conducted with a clear status of project achievements, challenges and advice on way forward.

    Qualification and Experience
    The candidate should have a PhD degree in plant or agricultural sciences or other relevant discipline from a recognized university.

    Position: Background and Responsibilities
    • Setup media Equipment and facilitate meetings;
    • Monitor system operation to detect potential problem:
    • Determine platform, interface and bandwidth needs;
    • Confer with clients regarding the nature of the information processing;
    • Evaluate current or emerging technologies to consider factors such as cost, portability, compatibility or usability;
    • Install and perform major repairs to hardware, minor repair to software or peripheral equipment following design or installation specifications;
    • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualification and Experience
    • Bsc/HND in Computer Science or related courses.
    • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in related environments;
