    Project Manager

    Project Implementation

    • Implement Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP) in partnership with the World Food Programme WFP funded project to prevent acute malnutrition among children MAM 24-59-month-old and Pregnant and Lactating Women PLW for host community populations in Rabah, Issa, Illela LGA of Sokoto State.
    • The project will implement different kind of activities to ensure, to prevent acute malnutrition among children 6–59-month old and PLW, for host community populations in Illela, Isa and Rabah by the end of the December 2023
    • To treat Moderate Acute Malnutrition amongst children 6-59months and Pregnant and Lactating Women - PLWs
    • To prevent the nutrition status of vulnerable groups from further deteriorating
    • To strengthened government systems to deliver quality comprehensive management of acute malnutrition-MAM
    • To strengthened community structures to take ownership and facilitate delivery ofcommunity nutrition activities.

    Job Summary

    • As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Project Manager will coordinate the development and implementation of quality programs and activities following national, state, funding agency and organization’s guidelines and requirements.
    • S/He will be responsible for providing direction, coordination and support to the Program Team Leads, namely the Team Lead, Advocacy and Policy Influencing Unit and Team Lead, Individual and Community Capacity Strengthening and their team members.
    • The Project Manager will ensure the smooth implementation of projects and the achievement of program objectives and outcomes.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities
    Program Implementation:

    • Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and in link with the other sectors ‘ Program Managers, he/ she will provide overall managerial oversight to Food Security and Nutrition programmes and support project implementation team
    • Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, with support of PM, provides leadership and implementation of WFP funded nutrition project
    • Coordinates and supervises the program country strategy implementation
    • Contributing to the design and update of the country strategy by providing inputs to the Executive Director.
    • Visiting AHSF field activities regularly and reporting on problems, challenges and obstacles while building an intimate knowledge of field work realities
    • Ensuring the monitoring and evaluation of the program including the identification of needs and gaps.
    • Monitoring and reviewing the security status of the area(s) of operation on a regular basis, liaising as applicable with local authorities, other NGOs, the UN or other relevant security bodies and keeping the Executive Director updated on relevant developments.
    • Coordinates the over all implementation of the projects
    • Ensuring objectives are met within the required time frame and budget and according to AHSF and donors & rsquo; procedures
    • Taking preventative and corrective action when necessary.
    • Ensuring the overall planning and follow-up of technical reporting for donors, authorities and internal requirements in coordination with the support departments.
    • Ensuring synergy between Technical and Support services
    • Ensuring the implementation of recommendations resulting from internal audit, field visits, HQ advisors, etc.
    • Piloting the internal quality control, by promoting monitoring mechanisms (ex: self-evaluation tool), facilitating internal control and external evaluations.
    • Represents and liaises for operational strategy and program to donors, authorities, UN, NGOs in link with the Executive Director.
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders (e.g. beneficiaries, community leaders, local and national government officials, donors, UN agencies and other NGOs) and representing AHSF at relevant state level meetings (e.g. state and local government, sector-coordination and security) in order to facilitate and ensure cooperation and partnerships.
    • Strengthening field and capital level information-sharing with INGOs, NGOs and Government
    • Contributing to the identification of potential funding opportunities. 
    • Analyzes Humanitarian needs and response Collecting, summarizing and analyzing information from external sources and from technical advisors for future opportunities.
    • Supporting the coordination team for proposals writing (narrative and financial) to address the identified needs.
    • To ensure cross departmental coordination with food security, nutrition livelihood and early recovery and resilience component

    Staff Management and Team Work:

    • Deputize for the Executive Director or other colleagues as required.
    • Facilitate shared learning and joint initiatives about programme implementation of activities.
    • Support the development and realization of program monitoring, evaluation and learning as well as knowledge management outcomes by promoting documentation and sharing of lessons learned.
    • Work with the Executive Director to cultivate and manage donor relationships and partnerships.
    • Nurture an open and collaborative work environment that encourages learning, productivity, accountability, flexibility, respect, non-discrimination and communication.
    • In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview and select qualified program staff.
    • Serve as a non-voting member of the Board Program Committee.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and HR staff to carry out annual performance appraisals of program team members and develop capacity building plans.
    • Treat beneficiaries with dignity and apply UNCEF Code of Ethics and Conduct, the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child(UNCRC) in the field, including sensitizing Field Staffs and vendors /agents on such principles

    Position Requirements

    • A Degree in Public Health, International Relations, Nutrition and Dietetics, Gender Studies, International Development or related field. An advanced degree is desirable but not required for this position.
    • 6-7 years of advocacy/program experience required.
    • Experience in influencing the policy and practice of governments and institutions through campaigning, advocacy and/or policy development is a plus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, policy development and fluent written/spoken English
    • Experience working with local NGOs required
    • Experience working and building collaborative relations with members of civil society, government, academia, and the private sector
    • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative as well as develop and implement programs
    • Ability to think and plan strategically.
    • Ability to lead, inspire, manage, coach and mentor staff at both individual and collective level.

    Nutrition Officer

    Job Summary

    • The Nutrition Officer will be the main point of reference in the field for the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP); he/she will collaborate with the Project Manager to support the team and the activities and directly contribute to the implementation of the distributions and of the nutrition awareness activities.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities
    Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, and in collaboration with the other collaborators of the project and of the base, he/she:

    • Coordinate regular project activities guaranteeing the smooth implementation of the TSFP:
      • Prepare distribution plans in coordination with the distribution team;
      • Ensure that teams have all the documentation needed when conducting distributions (such complaint registers, ration cards, attendance sheets, reporting templates, beneficiary list and soon);
      • (From 0 to 59 months)
      • Submit a movement plan for the TSFP team to the Project Manager/Project Manager as applicable;
      • Coordinate the sensitization and community mobilization activities before the distribution;
      • Report the needs of the team to the Project Manager / Project Manager for follow up.
    • Conduct monitoring of the distribution activities, provide comments to the team and suggest corrective actions when needed.
    • Conduct a debriefing with the team after the distribution point monitored.
    • Prepare a report to submit to the Project Manager/Project Manager on the distribution point monitored on a daily basis.
    • Conduct regular training of the staffing relation to nutrition, IYCF, MUAC screening (from 0 to 59 months).
    • Supervise the team of TSFP Officers, Nutrition Assistants, Storekeepers and DataEntry Clerk directly; Provide coaching and training to the team.
    • Prepare objectives for the direct supervisee and follow upon the achievements of the objectives by conducting a performance evaluation in cooperation with the Project Manager.
    • Conduct regular meetings to discuss TORs and general performance of the team, challenges and issues.
    • Coordinate IYCF activities, including cooking demonstrations, formation and training of mother support groups, overall monitoring of nutrition awareness activities conducted by the Nutrition Assistants,c contribute to the development of IYCF messages and IEC material for nutrition campaigns,tailored to local needs;
    • Support with the development of the tools for the Nutrition surveys to be rolled out at the beginning, mid-term and end of the project;
    • Supervise the update of the beneficiary database, by organizing the delivery of the TSFP registers,the printing of the beneficiary list and the analysis of the nutrition data, together with the M&E Officer and the Data Entry Clerk.
    • Receive and compile weekly activity reports from the field and share with the Project Manager/Project Manager.
    • Prepare daily and monthly distribution reports,with data received from the TSFP Officers and the Storekeepers and share them with WFP.
    • Provide inputs for the monthly narrative reports,including analysis of the complaints received.
    • Participate in nutrition related coordination forums, working groups,and technical meetings and activities at state level.
    • Support the teams in the field with their coordination with health and nutrition facilities and actors, local authorities, community leaders and Food Management Committees, support the Nutrition Assistants with ensuring complementarity of IYCF promotion with other organizations’activities.
    • Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of field teams; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to AHSF management and liaising with community leaders and other external parties to maintain/enhance the security environment for AHSF programs.
    • Treat beneficiaries with dignity and apply AHSF Code of Ethics and Conduct, the UN Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the field,including sensitizing Field Staffs and vendors / agents on such principles.

    Position Requirements

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health or another relevant field.
    • Master's Degree in relevant fields; Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health will be an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 5 years work experience in implementing CMAM, IYCF, and other community-based nutrition activities.
    • Experience in MAM treatment using TSFP is desirable under WFP funded project.
    • The Nutrition Officer will be based in Sokoto State.
    • Be proficient in the use of computer applications(Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Have excellent leadership, coordination, team, budget, project management and representation competencies.
    • Fluent in English and Hausa languages.
    • Have previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e. BSFP, Nutrition) preferably.

    Nutrition Assistant

    Job Summary

    • The Nutrition Assistant will be responsible for planning and implementation of nutrition activities in AHSF food security and nutrition operation area in Sokoto focusing on IDPs and vulnerable host communities.
    • They will ensure comprehensive mobilization of the community for nutrition screening of children under five, forming and monitoring care support groups andIYCF training.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Officer and in collaboration with the project manager, and other collaborators of the projects andoftheBase, they will:
    • Perform screening of the nutritional status of children under five in their designated locations and refer SAM cases to SC/MAM centers
    • Coordinate and collaborate with community mobilizers’ team leaders and lead mothers  of care groups in implementing follow-up of referred SAM cases
    • Follow up with the new admission of malnourished children.
    • Ensure liaison with existing community structures, (groups and individuals, women groups, religious leaders where possible.
    • Daily reporting.
    • Weekly reporting and compilation of monthly reporting.
    • Collect and track weekly data at the community level, including the results of MUAC screening during house-to-house visits, in accordance with AHSF standard nutrition statistical reporting forms
    • Submit weekly nutrition and health report to the Nutrition Officer for on ward sharing with the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer
    • Carry out the day-to-day Nutrition activities
    • Provide training on nutrition (IYCF) and hygiene practices
    • Follow referrals of all severely malnourished children to the stabilization center
    • Keep defaulter tracing for malnourished children
    • Report any problems in a timely manner to the Nutrition Officer or the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer
    • Participate in the fieldwork of the nutrition survey (impact assessment)
    • Conduct cooking demonstrations.

    Additional Responsibilities:
