Job description

• Responsible for ensuring that the receipt, processing, fulfilment and dispensing of medications and other prescription items are undertaken in a professional and clinically safe manner.
• Must discharge their duties in compliance with hospital standard operating procedures and policies and in accordance with professional pharmaceutical guidelines.
• Checks prescriptions to ensure that there are no errors and that they are appropriate and safe for the individual patient.
• Provides advice on the dosage of medicines and the most appropriate form of medication, for example, tablet, injection, ointment or inhaler.
• Participates in ward rounds, taking patient drug histories and involvement in decision-making on appropriate treatments as directed (ward pharmacist)
• Ensures medicines are stored appropriately and securely.
• Supervises the work of less experienced and less qualified staff.
• Answers questions about medicines from within the hospital, other hospitals and the general public.
• Keeps up to date with, and contributing to, research and development.
• Complies with hospital policies and pharmacy standard operating procedures
• Provides information on expenditure on drugs.
• Participates in team meetings and accreditation activities.
• Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
• Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labelling pharmaceuticals.
• Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
• Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying their preparation and labelling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
• Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counselling patients on drug therapies.
• Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff and health care professionals.

Qualification:

• A minimum of Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited University, completion of internship and NYSC

• A Registered Pediatric Nurse is a specialization of the nursing profession that focuses on pediatrics and the medical care of children, from infancy to the teenage years..

Duties include:

• Administering of drugs and injections
• Carrying out vaccinations against communicable diseases and infections occurring in children
• Observing strict hygiene and safety rules; and ensuring that parents and visitors also observe any of these rules in the ward or unit.
• Supporting, advising and educating parents and close relatives on conditions affecting their children
• Explaining treatments and procedures to enable parents/guardians to give consent to treatment
• Engaging in growth monitoring and assessment
• Setting up drips and blood transfusion
• Maintaining and checking IV infusions
• Assisting with tests and evaluations
• Writing reports and updating records before completing a shift.
