    Officer, Buyer

    Job Function

    • Responsible for identifying and procuring the spares and materials needed to maintain the constant operation of the transport unit of MDS Logistics Limited and management of the procurement of fuel to the dumps and all needed equipment and items by the transport unit.

    Key Performance Areas

    • Formulate implement procurement strategies aligned with organizational objectives, considering technical requirements, budgetary constraints, and supplier market dynamics.
    • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and select the most suitable vendors.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers, ensuring effective communication, performance evaluation, and resolution of any issues or disputes.
    • Facilitate negotiation of contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to obtain favourable conditions and achieve cost savings without compromising quality or timelines.
    • Ensure proper monitoring of supplier performance, assess risks, and implement necessary corrective actions to maintain supplier compliance and maximize value.
    • Supervise the end-to-end procurement process, including requisition processing, purchase order creation, supplier evaluation, and delivery coordination.
    • Review technical specifications and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and comprehensive procurement documentation.
    • Conduct supplier evaluations, quality assessments, and inspections to ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and contractual requirements.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within the technical procurement process.
    • Analyse pricing trends, market dynamics, and supplier performance to negotiate competitive rates and achieve cost reductions.
    • Implement effective cost control measures, such as contract management, demand forecasting, and inventory optimization.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant procurement regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Assess and mitigate procurement-related risks, such as supplier reliability, quality control, and legal compliance.

    Requirements
    Qualifications Required

    • Graduate Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

    Experience and Skills Required:

    • Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience.
    • Experience in tactical alignment to work within budgetary constraints
    • Experience in having managed relationships at different levels.

    Senior Controller, Managed Transport Solutions

    Job Function

    • The Controller: Managed Transport Solutions (Snr) is responsible for monitoring and optimizing fleet performance by ensuring efficient fuel management, route planning, kilometer tracking, and delivery verification.
    • This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to analyze operational data.
    • The Controller: Managed Transport Solutions (Snr) will work closely with the logistics and operations teams to ensure deliveries are timely, cost-effective, and aligned with client expectations.

    Key Performance Areas

    • Track and monitor fuel usage for each vehicle in the fleet to ensure adherence to budgetary limits.
    • Analyse fuel consumption patterns and identify areas for efficiency improvements.
    • Report any discrepancies or unusual fuel usage, particularly for deliveries that exceed allocated fuel limits
    • Manage optimized routes for drivers to minimize fuel costs, travel time, and dead kilometres.
    • Monitor route adherence and address any deviations from the planned routes with the drivers.
    • Work with the operations team to adjust routes as needed to enhance delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.
    • Track and report on dead kilometres (unproductive mileage) to improve fleet productivity.
    • Identify and propose strategies to reduce dead kilometres and increase operational efficiency.
    • Provide regular reports on dead kilometres to the logistics and fleet management team
    • Monitor and assess fuel expenses for delivery officers, especially for trips that go over budget.
    • Investigate reasons for overbudget usage and provide feedback and guidance to reduce future occurrences.
    • Work with fleet coordinators to implement controls that help keep fuel expenses within the approved budget.
    • Track deliveries and ensure that proof of delivery (POD) is collected for every shipment.
    • Follow up on shipment status and maintain communication with drivers and clients to confirm successful deliveries.
    • Address any discrepancies between PODs and the actual delivery information, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
    • Verify kilometre readings for each delivery with client records to ensure accurate billing.
    • Coordinate with clients to resolve any discrepancies in kilometre data and ensure transparency.
    • Maintain accurate records of validated kilometres for billing, auditing, and performance monitoring.

    Qualifications Required

    • Bachelors in, Transportation, Business Administration, or related field.

    Skills and Experience Required:

    • 3 years’ experience in related industry
    • Previous experience in customer service, preferably within a transport and logistics environment.
    • Experience in tracking systems (GPS, TMS, or similar) and providing real-time updates to customers is a plus.
    • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with transport management systems (TMS), GPS tracking software, and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effectively interacting with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
    • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues with shipments and provide quick, practical solutions.

    Vice President, Freight Forwarding - West Africa Region

    Job Function

    • Manage and drive the Clearing and Forwarding businesses in the West Africa region, to ensure sustainable business growth and performance.
    • The applicant will need to initiate the DP World Freight Forwarding network and footprint expansion strategy across the West Africa Region, to implement Ocean & Air product procurement strategies in key West Africa Region Countries, to implement key Trade Lane strategies, ensuring strategic compliance across the Western African network, and mitigating risk associated to contract liability with network offices/partners.

    Key Performance Areas
    Network:

    • Bolstering Freight Forwarding competence within existing DP World freight forwarding operations in the West Africa Region.
    • Maintaining and expanding existing partner agent relationships and opening their services to our global offices.
    • Collaborating with partners in key geographies and opening their services to our global offices.
    • Partnering, Leveraging, and Acquiring new freight forwarding businesses.
    • Collaborating and enhancing business between the global offices.

    Operations:

    • Ensure that each Business unit sets and meets its budgetary requirements, as set out by the EVP FFSSA.
    • Ensure that the Global ERP system and financial systems are implemented and functional in all Business units.
    • The People and Culture objectives are set out and achieved.
    • Financial performance goals are met.
    • To grow Freight Forwarding across the region through.
    • Implementation of customs services and compliance thereof.
    • Implementation of Air and Ocean operational teams to facilitate the throughput of shipments.
    • Collaborating and enhancing business between the DP World business units.

    Business Development:

    • To develop business within the West Africa Region and other trades.
    • Developing marketing strategies internally and externally for alignment and maximum exposure and expansion (new & existing) business.
    • Collaborating with Regional Commercial, Sales, Product, Operations and Trade Lane teams to execute strategies for maximum market growth and benefit across the various pillars.
    • Analysing market data and KPI’s to adjust to market demands.

    Strategy:

    • Staying abreast of industry and market developments, proactively responding where required to maintain progress and support.
    • Supply guidance on conceptual designs, developments and implementation strategies across the West Africa region.

    Requirements
    Qualifications Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in commerce or a field related to the position.

    Experience and Skills Required:

    • 10 – 15 years Freight Forwarding experience.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a logistics or clearing and forwarding environment.
    • 3 years prior experience within the Freight Forwarding industry as a P&L head.
    • MD level experience in Freight Forwarding.
    • Geographical and geopolitical knowledge, ability to interface and communicate with different cultures is essential.
    • Good understanding of Import / Export procedures and Incoterms.
    • Prior experience within Commercial / Operations in the industry is preferred.
