    Quality Instrument Technician

    Key purpose:

    Under the direction of the Alternate Crop and Agro Processing Manager Agriculture Africa, will be responsible for optimizing agro processing and raw material analyses. The primary purpose of this position is the effective planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of agriculture processing and analytical initiatives in the AB InBev Supply Chain for all raw materials. The role will have a strong focus on the coordination and execution of processing trials through the use of various techniques/operations/equipment to deliver value add raw materials fit for brewing. Problem Solving and improvement capability will also be a pivotal leg in the processing of raw materials

    Key roles and responsibilities

    • Responsible for the operation and running of the Pilot Malting plant
    • Responsible for the operation and running of Micro Malting Plant
    • Barley/Sorghum Malting trials or other raw materials identified
    • Processing trials of cassava or new raw materials identified  
    • Micro malting of raw material samples etc
    •  Laboratory analysis and management
    • Compiles experimental and analytical data
    • Operates related processing equipment in order to execute trials
    • Reviews, selects and modifies technologies and methodology
    • Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results
    • Analyses and discusses results and their interpretation with team 
    • Participates in devising new methodology
    • Maintains records and files

    Profile:

    • Min B.Tech in Chemistry, Microbiology or Food Technology
    • Min 5 years in a laboratory environment conducting analyses and proactive maintenance of equipment

    • Familiar with DOE’s and other Problem Solving Techniques
    • Computer Literate
    • Exposure to barley, malt, cassava and sorghum an advantage
    • Familiar with Malting and Brewing Process and understanding of process controls

    Packaging Artisan

    The Key Purpose of this role is to provide specialized dual artisan skill and knowledge to the shift team, and to support the operations, maintenance and problem solving activities of the shift teams.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Operational support

    • Provide specialist support to the shift based teams during operations
    • Assist as functional expert in problem solving
    • This must be undertaken in support of the Process Artisan Where requested, provide guidance and advice to the shift based teams on mechanical equipment, mechanical faultfinding and correct responses to mechanical failure modes 

    Planned maintenance

    • Take part in maintenance planning meeting, contributing suggestions and clarifying work required
    • Carry out work during the planned maintenance outage in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance Planner 
    • Partake in maintenance post mortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities

    Routine maintenance

    • Partake in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance Planner
    • Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule
    • Where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance, these must be resolved using the appropriate problem solving techniques. 

    Running Repairs

    • Partake in carrying out running repairs on plant and equipment, or support the Process Artisans in carrying out repairs
    • When carrying out repairs, assess the problem and determine a course of action
    • Complete the administration tasks relating to any running repairs  carried out as per CMMS requirements

    Problem solving

    • Where problems have occurred during routine activities, apply the correct problem solving approach to resolve
    • Where required, call in additional resources to assist in problem solving or escalate to the Maintenance Controller for direction
    • Assist fellow team members to resolve problems

    Housekeeping and safety

    • Operate in a safe manner at all times, and identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected
    • Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhere to appropriate AB InBev policies and procedures
    • Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties

    Maintenance Controller

    The key purpose of this role is to co-ordinate, coach and control the activities of the level one maintenance teams in the production environment and to provide specialist technical advice to ensure maximum equipment availability.

    Key roles and responsibilities:

    Asset Care

    • Manage all brewing electrical maintenance activities and lead a team of 6 employees on day shift
    • Diagnoses and interprets problems (fault finding) to optimize production output and with own team carrying out the plant repairs
    • Responsible for the reduction of breakdowns in the brewing area by analyzing breakdowns, complying with the PM requirements and implementing Continuous Improvements
    • Review and Implementation of Planned Maintenance Procedures (Daily, Weekly and Monthly Checklists)
    • Ensures that service levels agreements are maintained at the required standards by carrying out all breakdown, preventative and predictive maintenance effectively
    • Participate in executing the department’s asset care strategy and ensure the machine performance of the brewing department is maintained
    • Coaches and develops the engineering skills of other maintenance and operational staff
    • Control and oversee maintenance cost against available budget
    • Ensure engineering standards applied correctly
    • Draws up, coaches and develops engineering skills to other maintenance and operational staff using OPL and SOPs
    • Support Brewing Process Artisans
    • Coach Artisans on AWS

    Problem solving and decision making

    • Responsible for fault-finding and problem solving of engineering/ operational problems in the brewing area by ensuring that the appropriate corrective action regarding any deviation from standards is taken
    • Identifies the major engineering losses in brewing area and investigates using problem solving methodologies. (5 Why, Stage 1 etc.)
    • Review emergency works orders and initiate investigations and corrective action
    • Capability to develop and lead cross functional teams to deliver Business needs

    Safety and hygiene

    • Ensure team compliance with acts and procedures
    • Maintain 5 S and housekeeping standards
    • Ensure reporting, investigation, documentation and action of incidents as per the relevant acts and procedures
    • Promote safety awareness
    • Ensure compliance with special work permit requirements by own employees and contractors

    Administration

    • Manage Level 1 & 2 team goals in brewing area
    • Conduct individual and team performance reviews and one on ones
    • Provide performance feedback
    • Lead all VPO initiatives in the department
    • Apply and sustain industrial relations initiatives, policies, procedures, agreements & core values

    Quality

    • Ensures that Company Quality Standards and are adhered to in the brewing area

    Profile:

    • Minimum Qualification: National Diploma Mechanical/Electrical/Millwright
    • Trade: Fitter and Turner/Millwright/Electrical
    • Maintenance Diploma would be advantageous
    • 3 -5 years’ experience in Preventive, & Predictive Maintenance of concerned with production plant, involved in the day-to-day inspections, preventive & predictive maintenance and repair of machinery
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at various levels of the organization
    • Previous experience with VPO or other continuous improvement tools would be advantageous
    • Ability to prioritize and manage maintenance projects in a brewing environment
    • Good knowledge of sustainable development reporting would be advantageous
    • Good all round knowledge of manufacturing
    • Demonstrated knowledge of SHE policies and procedures

    Brewing Machine Specialist

    The Key Purpose is to maintain equipment in new condition, assuring reliable performance to standard through inspections and corrective actions to restore equipment back to inherent condition, problem solving to address root cause of failures and loop closure and provide input into the ZBB maintenance budget. Coaches operators in the correct way to operate equipment and perform autonomous operations. Typically assigned to quality impact machines like centrifuges', quality checks are carried out and deviations to standard acted on.

    • Minimum NTC/ N6 Technikon qualification
    • National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) will be an advantage
    • Trade test qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Millwright
    • Minimum 3 - 5 years in a packaging bottling production environment
    • 1-3 Years technical mechanical/electrical and brewing/bottling experience in a leadership capacity in a FMCG environment
