    Engineering Manager

    You will be expected to:

    • Lead and inspire talented engineers in an agile development environment to innovate, implement, and deploy and own end-to-end complex software solutions in a commercial, mission-critical environment for millions of customers
    • Develop and grow engineering talent through effective mentoring, coaching, and retention strategies in a fast-growing, highly competitive economic environment

    • 8+ years of experience building and working on cutting edge solutions that scale for millions of customers.

    • Experience leading cross-functional teams of multidisciplinary engineers
    • Solid experience of building systems using a variety of different architectures.

    Security GRC Officer

    As a member of the security team, you will contribute to the Security Organization by presenting your technical expertise with a balanced approach to communication and a bias for action. You will be required to work with a team of information security professionals, other teams within Paystack, and Paystack's customers to map out and effect change across Paystack’s information security landscape. You will leverage your experience across various tools and processes to establish policies and standards across the company.

    Key responsibilities

    The responsibilities of a security analyst (GRC) at Paystack include:

    • Contributing to establishing strategic information security objectives across Paystack.
    • Contributing to the strategic direction for Security Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance that align with overarching Security objectives of the company
    • Understanding the unique challenges of securing the Paystack platform across different markets and demographics
    • Identifying control gaps and testing the design of existing controls
    • Determining risk management controls and recommending improvements to company-wide controls
    • Ability to work effectively with a team to execute various security projects, evaluate controls and plan around solutions
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Ability to own and manage portions of the security program and provide consistent status updates to Security Leadership regarding progress against objectives
    • Raise accountability by escalating issues in a timely manner and creating and maintaining detailed documentation
    • Stay up-to-date with trends in the information security community
    • Operate with a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
    • Ability to distill controls across multiple regulatory requirements and frameworks for visibility into defence mechanism, strengths and gaps
    • Contribute to the development of our Internal vendor risk management program; this involves working with vendors and partners to ensure they have appropriate controls in place
    • Documenting exceptions to establish security policies, guidelines and standards; ensuring exceptions are reviewed periodically
    • Collaborate on internal communications for information security messaging for the enterprise.
    • Work with security leadership to develop a strategy for security training and awareness programs.

    Required

    • Experience with information security governance, risk and compliance experience for a global organization (preferably with reliance on cloud computing)
    • Experience developing and publishing company-wide policies, standards, and other governance documents
    • Experience in implementing industry standards frameworks/regulations such as Secure Controls Framework (SCF), ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Frameworks, Business Continuity (as it aligns with ISO22301)
    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects and assist/advise your team in establishing appropriate priorities
    • Ability to manage key customer relationships, including with senior management across business units
    • Ability to influence a cross-functional and cross-business unit team to accomplish goals
    • Excellent analytical skills and ability to learn quickly
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Senior Database Administrator

    As a Senior Database Administrator at Paystack, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, performance, and reliability of our database systems. You will work closely with product engineering, DevOps, and Data teams to ensure our databases are highly available, performant, and secure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in relational and non-relational database technologies, and an understanding of modern infrastructure practices including Infrastructure as Code, observability, and automation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Owns database architecture and strategy end to end, often collaborating across engineering teams.
    • Designs and implements database solutions that are scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant to support mission-critical payment workloads.
    • Plans and executes database migrations, upgrades, and schema changes with minimal downtime.
    • Builds and maintains automated database provisioning, backup, and recovery pipelines using Infrastructure as Code tools.
    • Proactively identifies and resolves performance bottlenecks through query optimisation, indexing strategies, and capacity planning.
    • Leverages AI-driven tools and techniques for anomaly detection, predictive performance tuning, and automated root cause analysis of database issues.
    • Implements and manages database monitoring and alerting using tools like Prometheus and Grafana to ensure early detection of issues.
    • Designs and enforces database security policies, including encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, and audit logging.
    • Leads incident response for database-related outages, conducts root cause analysis, and drives postmortems to prevent recurrence.
    • Develops and maintains disaster recovery and business continuity plans for all database systems.
    • Tackles ambiguous, high-risk data challenges proactively and introduces new ideas to simplify complex data architectures.

    Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Reliability Engineer.
    • Deep expertise with relational databases such as MySQL, including replication, partitioning, and high availability configurations.
    • Solid experience with NoSQL databases such as Redis, MongoDB,.
    • Experience operating databases on AWS (RDS, Aurora) or similar cloud-managed database services .
    • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform for provisioning and managing database infrastructure.
    • Proficiency in writing scripts and automation using SQL, Python, Bash, or similar languages.
    • Experience with database observability using monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch.
    • Experience using AI-assisted tooling (e.g., AI-powered query advisors, LLM-based copilots, or automated performance analysers) to improve database operations and troubleshooting workflows.
    • Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues in high-throughput, low-latency transactional systems.
    • Ability to clearly articulate, implement, and document design decisions around data modelling and database architecture.

    Beneficial

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field might be beneficial but not required.
    • Experience in the fintech industry or with payment processing systems, particularly with PCI DSS compliance as it relates to data storage and handling.
    • Experience with database change management and CI/CD for schema migrations (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase, gh-ost).
    • Familiarity with data warehousing, analytical databases, or streaming platforms such as Kafka.

    Team and Reporting Structure

    The selected engineer will report directly to the Head of Infrastructure. You will work closely with other members of the department including members of the Devops, Observability, Security teams and quite heavily with other product engineering teams.
