    Laboratory Scientist

    Job Purpose

    • The Laboratory Scientists will establish and oversee laboratory services across Stabilization Centers in Maiduguri, Monguno, Magumeri, and Dikwa.
    • Core responsibilities include supervising clinical diagnostics-particularly blood screening and cross-matching, while enforcing strict quality control and biohazard safety protocols.
    • Additionally, the role entails training and mentoring local laboratory staff, managing the inventory of consumable supplies, and maintaining meticulous records of all diagnostic tests, blood products, and sample transfers to ensure full compliance with established medical standards.

    Responsibilties

    • S/He will be responsible for establishing and/or supervising all laboratories and laboratory services within the Stabilization center project in Maiduguri, Monguno, Magumeri and Dikwa.
    • S/He will supervise and ensure the laboratory services provided in these health facilities, including basic screening tests for blood-borne diseases, grouping and cross-matching of blood, and that all blood and blood products are in line with established standards and are free of any known transmissible infections.
    • S/He will ensure quality control in the laboratory as a major responsibility of the project.
    • S/He will be involved in training and supervising local staff (the laboratory assistants and other project staff that may require laboratory training), oversee any testing occurring in the laboratory as required by the project and ensure that they conform to acceptable standards.
    • S/He will ensure that there is proper record keeping and stock monitoring within the laboratory of all consumable supplies and will also be responsible for ensuring proper records of any laboratory tests conducted or supervision of any other delegated party for the same.
    • S/He will ensure that there is adequate information provided to all relevant project staff regarding safety protocols for handling specific laboratory products, that various samples are processed in accordance with their biohazard/safety level and will also coordinate follow-up of samples in the event of a transfer.

    Position Requirements
    Education:

    • Must possess a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science Degree (BMLS)
    • MUST be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLCSN) and must possess a current practicing license.

    Professional experience:

    • Must possess a minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-qualification experience working in a laboratory and previous experience in other NGO’s
    • Experience working as a laboratory scientist in a Stabilization center is a plus.
    • Must have experience in sample collection of various laboratory samples.
    • Must have experience in hematological, chemical pathological and microbiological analysis.

    Professional requirements:

    • Experience in developing and coordinating a supply management system with respect to laboratory supplies
    • Knowledge of all basic laboratory techniques and quality control systems is very essential to this role.

    Information Management Officer

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder will be responsible for develop and maintain information management (IM) strategy and tools in accordance with INTERSOS standards IM Approach (covering Data Collection, Data Storing, Data Analysis, Data Reporting and Sharing, Data Archiving), to improve data management and quality, and promote internal and external communications.
    • Create operational data management systems to enable effective collection, management, analysis of data, in compliance with quality standards and data protection/data sharing policies and protocols.

    Responsibilties

    • Develop data collection, data management and data visualisation tools and procedures, in accordance with INTERSOS standard approach, and in close collaboration with the MEAL and the Programmes department
    • Ensure regular update and quality of programmes’ DB, guaranteeing data protection protocols are respected and internal sharing is conform with INTERSOS IM requirements
    • Support Programmes and MEAL staff in conducting assessments, by developing ad hoc surveys, forms and other tools as needed, and by providing capacity building to the field teams
    • Proactively gather information from other clusters, organisations and partners on relevant areas of concern and interest for the mission
    • Clean, aggregate, compile, and analyse projects’ datasets, ensuring quality and accuracy of final data
    • Produce visual materials with relevant project data to support communications and reporting, and to enhance internal communication both within the mission and between the mission and HQ, in collaboration with the Communication department
    • Build the capacity of other team members on the use of online data collection and data management tools
    • Regularly train field teams in the use of data collection tools
    • Provide technical guidance to MEAL and programme staffs of IM tools on and its correct use
    • Prepare quarterly, monthly and weekly reports of activities, in line with MEAL and programmes requirements
    • Liaise with technical IM staffs of other organisations and participate in meetings and
    • activities by coordinating bodies/clusters, under the supervision of the MEAL Coordinator or MEAL Manager

    Position Requirements
    Education:

    • B.Sc Degree / HND qualification in relevant field (Information Management, Analysis, Statistics or other related area).

    Professional experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant professional experience of providing information management support in humanitarian context
    • Proven and demonstrable knowledge and experience in statistics, data analysis and/or information managementogical, chemical pathological and microbiological analysis.

    Professional requirements:

    • Ability to use a logical and structured approach to collate, manage and synthesise both qualitative and quantitative information
    • Reporting skills, experience with monitoring tools and systems, different data collection methodologies and analysis
    • Excellent skills in visualisation of data and information (Google Data Studio, MS Power BI, etc.)
    • Advanced spreadsheet skills (Excel, Google Sheet) and experience with analytical software packages is an asset.

    Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW)

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder will be responsible for Providing information and health education messages at the community level and strengthen the link between the community and INTERSOS and/or supported MOH health structures.

    Responsibilties

    • Collect and report to CHW Supervisor specific information related to his/her community: perception of the sickness, food security, vaccination status of children, perception of the services, constraints and strengths, vulnerability, level of information, living conditions and risks related
    • Deliver information to his/her community on specific health topics and about INTERSOS and the services it provides
    • Consolidate the link between his/her community and the INTERSOS services. Give advice on how to better involve his/her community in the activities of awareness and prevention; indicate possible local actors or local NGOs and community project which could be involved in awareness activities at a local level
    • Support the mapping of the territory and population: schools, religious centres, villages, gathering points.
    • Support and facilitate relations with local authorities of his/her community, where requested by the Supervisor.
    • Support INTERSOS in the defaulter tracing activities
    • Report to Supervisor progressing of activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.

    Technical Manager, Medical

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder is responsible for Participating in defining, planning and monitoring medical activities and programs in the mission in accordance with INTERSOS protocols as well as coordinate human and material related resources needed in order to ensure the quality of care provided by INTERSOS.
    • Is responsible for the coordination of medical activities and resources in the mission if there are not the presence of a Medical Coordinator and a Deputy Medical Coordinator.

    Responsibilties

    • In collaboration with the Program Manager, the Medical Coordinator and the rest of team define, implement and monitor medical activities, according to INTERSOS project plans and mission strategy, standards and protocols. Participate in exploratory missions, situation assessments (providing technical inputs and recommendations for new and ongoing interventions in the country and defining medical operational priorities when needed) and the development of the project policy, annual plan, budget review and project proposal and reports to donors
    • Supervise the Medical Activity Managers ensuring a homogeneous mission Program approach and management across all projects, and guarantying a good quality of medical activities
    • Residing in the field/area, is the responsible in ensuring the quality of activities and report to the medical coordination any analysis or issue related to the implementation of the medical program and any humanitarian medical matters that may impact the activities.
    • In coordination with the Program Manager, establish and maintain regular and collaborative relations with relevant donors, local authorities, partners, medical actors, project stakeholders and other organizations working in the target areas
    • Proactively participate in cluster meetings and relevant inter-sectoral coordination meetings at field level, contributing to the development of guidelines, standards, tools and strategies
    • Provide technical support to medical personnel in the field through self-knowledge and policies, ensuring compliance with the protocols of INTERSOS medical activities
    • Coordinate, supervise, coach, support and evaluate the medical team members’ performance to improve the medical components of the project and ensure compliance with INTERSOS protocols and standards
    • Plan and supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training, induction, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the medical staffs of the program in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required and improve staffs capabilities
    • In close coordination with the Program Managers and clusters, develop and establish internal and external functional and effective referral and coordination mechanisms at field level
    • In coordination with HQ Medical Unit is the focal person in case of absence of the Medical Coordinator and Deputy Medical Coordinator to coordinate medical activities (opening and closure of mission, interim, reduced activities, etc…)

    • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience as Medical supervisory role in the humanitarian sector especially in fragile and unstable environments is highly desirable.

    Medical Activity Manager

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder will be responsible for Define, coordinate and monitor medical activities of the project under his responsibility according to INTERSOS protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients and their local communities as well as to improve the health conditions of the target population of the project.

    Responsibilties

    • Coordinate, assess and supervise the proper functioning of the medical activities of the project according to INTERSOS protocols, standards and procedures and through the correct compilation and analysis of medical data regarding patients health conditions
    • Participate in the definition of annual planning and budget for the project and in the follow up of the project. Supervise and ensure that medical activities objectives under his responsibility are achieved, reporting to the technical referent any problem arising in the service
    • Coach and train the medical team of the activities he manage in order to guarantee the good quality of the medical activities and to provide the medical care to the patients
    • Check all administrative procedures related to patients’ follow-up (card filling, registers, paper exit, discharge, transfers ...) are carried out correctly and according to INTERSOS procedures
    • Coordinate and monitor the daily working plan of the team under his responsibility (absent personnel, vacations, tracking leaves ...). Participate in shifts and replaces a staff if necessary
    • Plan and supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal communication) of the staffs under his responsibility in order to improve staff’s capabilities and to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
    • Participate in the monthly reports according to guidelines.

    Feeding Assistant

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder is responsible for participating in the nutritional case management of children suffering from acute malnutrition under the supervision of the nutritional nurse
    • and according to INTERSOS nutritional and hygiene protocols to improve the health conditions of the targeted population.

     Responsibilities 

    • Carry out basic health care (swabbing, applying local treatments, etc.
    • Following the rules on hygiene and asepsis.
    • Inform caretakers on the functioning of the center: lay out, daily activity plan (number and frequency of the meals, medical visit, weight measurement, etc.) and other general information.
    • Distribute meals according to medical prescriptions for each patient, ensuring that no other food is given in phase 1 and maintain hygienic conditions while doing this.
    • Report on daily basis intakes of the patients under nutritional treatment.
    • Guides the implementation of PSS programming with a focus on technical aspects and quality assurance through close.
    • Stimulate mothers to breast-feed.
    • Monitor and report weight and other vital indicators, if necessary, (temperature, heart and respiratory rates) of each patient.
    • Report the nurse pathologic symptoms such as, apathetic, anorexia, not drinking, vomiting, fever, dehydration, diarrhea, etc.
    • Apply the correct procedures in the event of a fever (damping down, providing liquids, etc.) or hypothermia (kangaroo method, survival blanket, etc.).
    • Supervise drinking water availability in the ward and ensure it is well identified.
    • Supervise that the premises and materials remain clean.
    • Provide hygienic training and sanitation education to children, mothers and the targeted population.
    • Prepare RESOMAL.

    CASH Officer

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder will be responsible for the design, implementation, and monitoring of cash programs.
    • The goal is to ensure that vulnerable populations receive assistance in a way that is dignified, efficient, and supportive of local markets, while maintaining strict financial accountability.

    Responsibilties
    Feasibility & Market Assessment:

    • Conduct market price monitoring and supply chain analysis to ensure local markets can support cash interventions.
    • Assess digital infrastructure (mobile money, banks) to determine the best delivery mechanism.

    Implementation & Distribution:

    • Manage the end-to-end distribution process, including beneficiary registration and identity verification.

    Nutrition Assistant

    Job Purpose

    • The position holder is responsible for providing quality Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) – E services at community and facility levels.
    • The incumbent will engage in and will work with other team members in the delivery of optimal infant and young child feeding in emergency.

     Responsibilities 

    • Create awareness and sensitize the community on CMAM practices, IYCF, malnutrition, and the causes of malnutrition and treatment of malnutrition.
    • Participate in the screening of children less than five years, referral and follow up of malnourished beneficiaries at the community level.
    • Implement sensitization activities for targeted communities about CMAM, IYCF with support from MOH, community leaders and other key stakeholders at LGA level.
    • Ensure timely submission of weekly reports, monthly reports and MUAC screening data & reports to nutrition officers for compilation.
    • Organize and lead the formation of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups for IYCF with the support of IYCF/Nutrition Officer.
    • Ensure strong communication links with all other CMAM staff, providing advice and support to all other staff members on infant and young child feeding issues as and when they arise.
    • Conduct education sessions within the surrounding community on the importance of infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices in conjunction with community mobilisers.
    • Aid in establishing care group approach (CGs) within the community to provide additional support for mothers and extend knowledge of good infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices.
    • Support in recruiting care group promoters across the catchment area of the project intervention.
    • Conduct care group training in collaboration with care group facilitators for the care group promoters.
    • Improve on the linkages between the care group beneficiaries with primary health care and community management of acute malnutriition (CMAM) program and other ongoing programs in the community where applicable.
    • Participate in surveillance activities including home visit to monitor nutrition situation and program activities.
    • Participate in direct skilled IYCF support services including Growth Promotion and Monitoring at IYCF corners/spaces and other contact points.
    • Organize and participate in food demonstration sessions periodically.
    • Conduct regular focus group discussions with beneficiaries to assess barriers to optimal IYCF uptake.
    • Ensure Gender mainstreaming in nutrition, and integration of other sectors.
    • Support the development of case studies and success stories from program implementation.
    • Support other nutrition activities as necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned.
