    Portfolio Analyst

    Description

    • A key aspect of the role is identifying underperforming investments and developing turnaround strategies to drive operational improvements and recommend restructuring or exit strategies where required.
    • This is not a reporting role. You will build the analytical engine that drives investment decisions, board accountability, and operational turnaround across a multi-sector portfolio, with direct exposure to a Group Executive and operating company boards from day one.

    Responsibilities

    • Portfolio Financial Analysis: Build and maintain financial models across portfolio companies. Produce EBITDA bridges, variance analyses, and management account reviews. Own the monthly performance pack from data to board-ready output.
    • Board & Governance Reporting: Synthesize portfolio results into crisp, decision-grade board materials for principal-level decision-makers. Turn management accounts into a narrative with flags and recommendations.
    • Valuation & Investment Support: Support deal analysis, hold-versus-exit assessments, and capital allocation decisions. Build DCF, LBO, and comparable models. Conduct sector benchmarking.
    • Operational Performance Work: Support turnaround and performance-improvement programs. Analyze unit economics, cost structures, and working capital. Translate operational data into financial impact.
    • AI-Augmented Modelling: Use AI tools like Claude, Copilot, and similar to accelerate financial analysis, automate reporting, and build dynamic dashboards. AI-assisted work is a core expectation.

    Qualifications

    • 3–4 years in investment banking, consulting (deals or performance improvement), or wealth/asset management
    • Financial modelling and valuation: DCF, LBO, comparables, scenario analysis
    • Comfort preparing and interpreting financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
    • Experience producing board-level materials for senior decision-makers
    • Exposure to multi-entity, portfolio, or transformation environments
    • Strong Excel; AI-assisted working practice a distinct advantage

    Other Requirements:

    • Relentless numeracy: Genuine curiosity about what the numbers mean, not just what they say.
    • Discretion: You will handle sensitive portfolio information Confidentiality is non-negotiable.
    • Bias for synthesis over data-dumping. Boards need one answer, not twelve slides
    • Intellectual honesty: Able to flag a bad number even when it is inconvenient
    • Self-direction. The Group Exec moves fast; keep pace without handholding
    • Commercial instinct that goes beyond finance technique.
