    Air-Conditioning Technician

    Responsibilities

    • The air-conditioning technicians install, inspect, maintain, and repair air conditioner.
    • They ventilate equipment and controls making sure they operate efficiently and continuously.
    • They perform regular maintenance work on cooling units.
    • They diagnose electrical and mechanical defects and malfunctions.
    • They install, replace, or repair equipment that has been damaged.
    • They make adjustment and do calibrations of thermostatic controls.
    • They install new air-conditioning systems and equipment.
    • They inspect and maintain refrigerators and ice machines, and chilled water supply systems.
    • They clean blowers and coils, check tensions of belts and motors.
    • They make plans and designs of new air-conditioning systems including their installation and maintenance.

    Skills

    • The air-conditioning technicians should be able to work in places where they are exposed to dust, fumes, noise, toxic materials and high voltage equipment.
    • They should also be capable of working in confined and hot spaces like roofs, crawl ways and attics.
    • They may also have to work in adverse weather and may be required to lift heavy objects, bend, stoop, kneel or stand for long stretches of time.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to read and write.
    • They should be able to read and interpret building regulations and codes implemented by city, state and federal government agencies pertaining to installing air-conditioning units.
    • Time management.
    • Mechanical Skills.

    Plumber

    Responsibilities

    • Interprets blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials.
    • Installs pipes and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, for water, gas, steam, air, or other liquids.
    • Installs supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
    • Assembles fittings and valves for installation.
    • Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed for a building.
    • Uses saws and pipe cutters as necessary.
    • Installs heating and air-conditioning systems, including water heaters.
    • Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing
    • Tests plumbing systems for leaks and other problems.
    • Analyses problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair.
    • Chooses plumbing materials based on budget, location, and intended uses of building.
    • Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes.
    • Writes report documenting the problem and summary of actions taken.
    • Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.
    • Prepares bids and schedules and oversees other workers, such as apprentices and helpers.

    Skills

    • Reading, drawings, and figures to understand the layout of water supply, waste, and venting systems.
    • Installing, repairing and maintaining domestic, commercial, and industrial plumbing fixtures and systems.
    • Being able to work in confined spaces or at certain heights.
    • Communicating effectively and confidently with colleagues, subcontractors, and management.
    • Locating pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors.
    • Using hand and power tools, as well as machines, to measure, cut, bend and thread pipes.
    • Planning and performing calculations for specific and unique projects.
    • Providing time and cost estimates of the work to be performed (both labour and materials).
    • Being able to test pipes for leakages using water as well as air pressure gauges.
    • Knowledge of legal restrictions and safety rules.
    • Meeting safety standards and taking note of build regulations.

    Electrician

    Responsibilities

    • Read blueprints or technical diagrams.
    • Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers.
    • Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
    • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
    • Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code.
    • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring or equipment.
    • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings, specifications, and applicable codes to determine wiring layouts.
    • Cut, thread, bend, assemble and install conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
    • Pull wire through conduits and holes in walls and floors, position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit
    • breaker panels and fuse enclosures, install, replace, maintain and repair electrical systems and related electrical equipment.
    • Install data cabling, splice, join and connect wire to form circuits. Test circuits to ensure integrity and safety.
    • Install and maintain fibre optic systems and, install, replace, maintain and repair electrical generation sources and related equipment, and may specialize in renewable energy (eg. wind/solar).

    Skills

    • Good communication and reading skills.
    • An aptitude for mathematics, mechanical ability, strength and manual dexterity, the ability to distinguish colours to work with colour-coded wiring.
    • The ability to plan and organize.
    • The ability to work at heights.
    • The ability to use proper lifting techniques for weights up to 25 kilograms.
    • The ability to get along well with co-workers.
    • The ability to coach and mentor, the willingness to keep up with new developments in the field.
    • The ability to create new ways of completing tasks.
    • The ability to do very precise work, problem solving, and computer skills.
