    Permitting Manager and Regulatory Lead - TESCo

    Required Qualifications

    • 5+ years of related experience working in energy or infrastructure project development, environmental or energy consultancy, telecommunications, or a related field
    • Motivation to work in the renewable energy industry, particularly the distributed generation / off-grid sector  
    • Experience working in rural Nigeria with established connections to key energy, environmental or telecommunications regulatory agencies
    • Professional fluency in English. Expert and professional communicator in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Establish and maintain personal relationships with energy permitting officers of regulatory agencies to drive successful licensing of CBE’S TESCo portfolio of projects across rural Nigeria
    • Support the Regulatory Affairs teams at CBE to refine our understanding of the licensing roadmap for TESCo projects based on legal advice and consultations with local stakeholders in Nigeria
    • Support the team to effectively use permit checklists, flagging areas where items are missing or not meeting stated requirements
    • Draft and update permit application documents to meet CBE standards, leveraging input from the regulatory, ESG, and project development and technical teams where required  
    • Prepare digital application files for CBE license and permit submissions across over 20 Nigerian states, including site-by-site approvals where needed
    • Consistently, accurately, and clearly captures project licensing knowledge and data. Transmit this knowledge to the team through existing tools and procedures in accordance with internal and external reporting deadlines
    • Follow up with relevant government agencies and entities – in person when required – to streamline application processes (where possible) and minimize delays to project development timelines
    • Honour Cross Boundary's code of ethics around compliance and anti-bribery in every aspect of the role
    • Identify potential external agencies with which CBE can partner to grow our regulatory resources in Nigeria. Support CBE Contracting and onboarding of these resources.
    • Once the team is established, lead this team to drive progress in this workstream, whilst maintaining links and participating within CBE’s wider regulatory team.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Lead the deployment of the newly established CrossBoundary Group Curriculum
      • Work directly with Group Partners and other members of Group leadership to develop new CrossBoundary-created content and revise existing content to reflect best-in-class practices, emerging thinking, and senior leadership’s evolving perspectives
      • Oversee all reading discussions led by senior leaders across the firm, coordinating timing and sharing best practices across sessions
      • Direct all training delivered by external experts, both through in-person training sessions and online self-directed courses
      • Extract feedback on all content and training, and continuously adapt the Curriculum to reflect that feedback
    • Expand the CrossBoundary Curriculum to establish platform-specific CrossBoundary Curricula
      • Design the Curriculum for each of CrossBoundary Advisory, CrossBoundary Investment Management, and CrossBoundary Group
      • Work with platform leadership to determine the content needed for each platform’s own Curriculum, while ensuring all material complements the existing Group Curriculum
      • Direct the development of all platform-specific CrossBoundary-created content, partnering with members of platform leadership to capture CrossBoundary’s unique approach, method, or perspective
      • Assign and coordinate ownership among platform leadership of all content delivered by CrossBoundary team members
      • Identify, trial, and select third-party providers for all training delivered by experts external to CrossBoundary
      • Communicate each platform’s Curriculum to all platform team members, in such a way that inspires engagement and excitement
    • Implement all platforms’ Curricula, incorporating all content into CrossBoundary’s learning management system and managing the delivery of all live content
    • Organize and execute biannual in-person CrossBoundary Analyst Training and CrossBoundary Leadership Training, combining established Group and platform-specific Curricula
    • Develop detailed agendas for each training, working closely with the Global Head of Administration to coordinate all logistics
    • Work directly with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure alignment with training budgets
    • Direct the delivery of all content, managing internal owners and facilitators as well as external trainers to optimize team members’ participation and engagement
    • Act as the point person for each training, communicating all information to attendees before and during the training
    • Ensure all 150+ CrossBoundary team members' progress against their CrossBoundary Curriculum requirements
      • Manage all team members’ Curriculum requirements on an ongoing basis through CrossBoundary’s learning management system
      • Assign all required content to new hires and newly promoted team members, and communicate directly with them to ensure they understand their responsibilities and are aware when they are off track
      • Work closely with the Chief People Officer to ensure all team members eligible for promotion complete their learning requirements on time
    • Identify and implement new learning tools that expand team members’ skills and respond to teams’ requests for additional training
    • Support the Chief of Staff to organize and execute biannual in-person CrossBoundary Summits, CrossBoundary’s firm-wide offsite
      • Work directly with the Chief of Staff to design a detailed agenda balancing content and socializing activities, working closely with the Global Head of Administration to coordinate all logistics
      • Ensure the delivery of all content alongside the Chief of Staff, directing and facilitating all Curriculum-based content

    Qualifications

    Data Scientist

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Management of data sets relevant to individual projects
    • Analysis of historical data to identify past and current patterns as well as causal relationships
    • Creation of predictive models, “What-if” scenarios, and time-series predictions
    • Design of recommendation algorithms to select optimal choices from universe of options

    Qualifications

    • Experience working in developing countries will be regarded favorably
    • Expertise in at least one data-focused programming language (e.g.: Python, R, MATLAB)
    • Expertise in advanced statistical applications: non-parametric regression and classification, Bayesian methods, etc.
    • Expertise in visualization libraries (e.g.: Plotly, ggplot2, Tableau)
    • Experience in version control (e.g.: Git/GitHub) is a plus
    • Experience manipulating and transforming large data sets (e.g.: SQL, Spark, HDFS) is a plus

    Associate - West Africa

    The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

    • A minimum of three (3) years of full-time relevant work experience, working in investment banking, financial advisory, insurance underwriting, project development, development finance, project finance, financial services or development finance-related consulting, or private equity.
    • A strong familiarity with underserved African markets required, and with Sierra Leone and Liberia preferred
    • Strong written and oral communications skills
    • Expertise in project structuring and corporate and project finance; and financial modelling capability.
    • Proficiency in MS Office.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
    • Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal supervision and interest and commitment to international development.
    • Existing and extensive network of professional contacts in sub-Saharan Africa.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Build and maintain a strong network of contacts in public and private sectors in Sierra Leone and Liberia, and with potential investors to facilitate economic activity
    • Serve as the principal point of contact in prospecting the local market and building a pipeline of financeable deals

    Transaction Origination:

    • The Associate shall identify and pre-screen transaction opportunities for DFIs. This includes but is not limited to:
      • Conducting business development meetings with potential project sponsors, developers, financiers, and other relevant parties for the purpose of introducing the product offerings and funding criteria of client DFIs and identifying potential transaction opportunities
      • Reviewing project information documents such as teasers, pitch books, information memoranda, and financial statements to vet and evaluate project opportunities
      • The collection, completion, and verification of project information to assist DFIs with evaluating or screening the project and filling in of project summary sheets
      • Assisting with DFIs Screening Committee documentation, as needed
    • Support selected companies to reach investment readiness by providing technical assistance
    • For a restricted list of companies, the Associate will identify technical assistance needs
    • For a restricted list of companies, the Associate may be required to provide direct technical assistance, in the form of completing financial models, assessing organizational, financial and ESG performance and providing recommendations, etc.

    Due Diligence Support:

    The Associate shall assist client DFIs with transaction execution. This includes but is not limited to:

    • Assisting in the collection, completion, and/or verification of due diligence information relating to a transaction required for Credit Committee, Investment Committee and/or required to reach financial close
    • Monitoring and reporting on applicable policy or legislation changes that may affect the transaction
    • Assisting DFIs’ officers on due diligence
    • Assisting with the verification of conditions precedent to reach financial close
    • Entering the details of all supported transactions on the Transaction Pipeline Tracker

    Field Presence Support:

    This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Engaging with client DFIs officers to provide insights on relevant companies, markets, country developments, etc.
    • Participating and/or presenting at events, conferences, and meetings relevant to client DFIs
    • Monitoring and reporting changes in law, policy, or economic climate relevant to potential transactions
