    RTG Operator

    Purpose of the Role

    The RTG Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating Rubber Tyre Gantry cranes to load, discharge, and relocate containers within the yard or directly onto/off incoming and outgoing terminal trucks. Containers handled range from 20ft to 40ft, loaded or empty.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Excellence

    • Operate RTG cranes to load and unload containers involved in vessel and yard operations.
    • Conduct thorough pre‑shift equipment inspections to ensure all systems are functioning correctly.
    • Identify and report safety hazards, mechanical issues, or equipment damage before, during or after operations.
    • Follow all safe operating procedures to prevent injuries, equipment damage, or property loss.
    • Perform duties efficiently to maintain high productivity levels.
    • Execute additional related tasks as required.

    Reporting & Scope

    • Direct reports: None
    • Indirect reports: None
    • Reports directly to the Yard Supervisor.
    • Scope of responsibilities is domestic.

    Work / Business Contacts

    • Internal: Planning, Technical, Safety & Security.
    • External: Vessel agents and customers as necessary.
       

    Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

    Education

    • Minimum SSCE / WAEC certification.

    Experience

    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience operating equipment in a terminal or similar industrial environment.
    • Previous experience as a Reach Stacker or Empty Handler Operator is considered a natural progression.
    • Strong working knowledge of container terminal operations, including vessel logistics, hazardous cargo, break‑bulk and special cargo handling.
    • Familiarity with international safe working standards.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong hand‑eye coordination and depth perception.
    • Ability to work at heights; no acrophobia.
    • Basic English (oral and written) and working knowledge of Pidgin English.
    • Experience in multicultural work environments is an advantage.
    • Valid driving licence.
    • No previous safety or procedural breaches.

    MHC Operator

    Purpose of the Role

    The Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC) Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile harbour cranes to load and discharge containers from vessels, terminal trucks, and the yard. Containers vary in size (20ft–40ft) and may be either empty or fully loaded.

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Responsibilities

    • Operate Mobile Harbour Cranes, quay cranes, and vessel cranes for loading and unloading containers from vessels.
    • Conduct pre‑shift inspections to ensure all crane systems and components are functioning properly.
    • Identify and report any malfunction, safety hazard, or damage before, during, or after the shift.
    • Follow all operational and safety procedures to prevent injury or damage to personnel, cargo, equipment, or property.
    • Ensure tasks are performed efficiently and productively to maintain operational flow.
    • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
    • Act as Foreman under Hook when not operating STS cranes.

    Reporting & Scope

    • No direct or indirect reports.
    • Reports directly to the Vessel Supervisor.
    • Scope of work is domestic.

    Work / Business Contacts

    • Internal: Planning, Technical, Safety & Security departments.
    • External: Vessel agents and customers, as required.

    Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

    Education

    • Minimum SSCE / WAEC qualification.

    • Prior experience operating reach stackers or empty handlers considered a natural progression.
    • Strong understanding of container terminal operations: vessel logistics, hazardous cargo, break‑bulk, and special cargo handling.
    • Familiarity with international safety standards and strict compliance with safe working practices.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Excellent hand‑eye coordination and depth perception.
    • Ability to work at heights; no acrophobia (fear of heights).
    • Basic proficiency in English (oral and written) and working knowledge of Pidgin English.
    • Experience in multicultural work environments is an advantage.
    • Valid driving licence.
    • Clean safety record with no previous breaches or warnings.
