This job holder supports the Network Planning and Design department by analyzing spatial data, creating maps, and developing GIS models to enhance network planning, system reliability, and decision-making processes.
Job Responsibilities
Supervise and guide the GIS team in the development and maintenance of GIS databases and mapping applications to support network planning and distribution.
Oversee the analysis of spatial data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for network expansion or optimization.
Ensure the creation of detailed maps and visualizations of network infrastructure and proposed changes using GIS software, maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
Lead the integration of GIS data with other technical data sources to improve network reliability and planning accuracy.
Direct and supervise spatial analysis and modelling efforts for network design, asset management, and risk assessment.
Review and approve the preparation of technical reports and presentations with GIS data and visualizations, ensuring they meet stakeholder requirements.
Collaborate with engineers and planners to incorporate GIS data into project designs and plans, providing leadership and direction.
Monitor, update, and ensure the accuracy of GIS datasets across the organization, implementing quality control procedures as necessary.
Provide high-level training and technical support to staff on advanced GIS tools and applications.
Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations in the handling and usage of GIS data, and develop policies to maintain these standards.
Conduct field surveys and manage the collection of spatial data to update GIS databases as needed.
Prepare and present periodic and ad-hoc GIS reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Mentor junior staff and develop their skills, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
Perform other duties as may be directed by senior management or as needed to support the Network Planning and Design department.
Job Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in GIS or spatial analysis is an added advantage.
Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS pro, QGIS) and spatial analysis techniques.
At least 5+ years' experience in GIS analysis within the utilities industry or a related field, with a proven track record of leadership or supervisory roles.
