    Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic

    Job Summary

    • The Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of our fleet of diesel-powered commercial vehicles (e.g., tractor-trailers, straight trucks, and associated equipment). This role is critical to maintaining Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance, ensuring vehicle safety, and maximizing fleet uptime in a fast-paced logistics environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Maintenance & Repair:

    • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacements.
    • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in critical systems:
    • Engine: Major diesel engines (e.g., Cummins, Detroit, Volvo, Paccar).
    • Drivetrain: Transmissions (manual, automated, automatic), clutches, drive axles, and differentials.
    • Braking Systems: Air brake systems (including chambers, valves, compressors), hydraulic brakes, and ABS diagnostics.
    • Steering & Suspension: Front ends, air ride suspensions, leaf springs.
    • Pneumatics & Hydraulics: Air systems for brakes and accessories, hydraulic systems for lifts and tailgates.
    • HVAC: Cab air conditioning and heating systems.

    Diagnostics & Problem-Solving:

    • Utilize diagnostic software, electronic tooling, and laptop-based programs to troubleshoot complex electrical and electronic faults.
    • Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
    • Perform road tests to verify repairs and identify intermittent issues.

    Safety & Compliance:

    • Conduct thorough Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspection Reports (DVIRs) as per DOT regulations.
    • Perform Annual DOT Inspections and prepare vehicles for third-party inspections.
    • Ensure all repairs meet federal, state, and local safety standards.
    • Adhere to all company safety policies, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe handling of fuels and chemicals.

    Workshop Duties:

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    • Accurately document all work performed, parts used, and time spent on repair orders in the Fleet Management System (FMS).
    • Manage inventory of parts and tools; communicate parts needs to the supervisor.
    • Assist in mentoring and training apprentice mechanics.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    Essential (Must-Have):

    • Certification: A valid Heavy-Duty Commercial Transport (310T) license or equivalent provincial/state certification (e.g., ASE Certification in Medium/Heavy Truck in the U.S. is highly preferred).
    • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing Class 8 heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
    • Technical Skills: Proficient with diagnostic tools (e.g., JPRO, Insite, Detroit Diesel Diagnostics, OEM software) and standard workshop equipment.
    • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, and DOT regulations.
    • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting heavy objects (50+ lbs), working in various positions (kneeling, bending, overhead), and working in varied environmental conditions (heat, cold).
    • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, reliability, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.

    HVAC Technician

    Job Summary

    • The HVAC Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for JMG's clients and projects. This role requires a high degree of technical skill, a commitment to safety, and a customer-focused approach to ensure optimal system performance and client satisfaction.

    Key Responsibilities

    Installation & Commissioning:

    • Install new HVAC/R systems (split units, VRFs, ducted systems, chillers, etc.) according to engineering specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and JMG standards.
    • Perform system commissioning, including charging with refrigerant, testing, balancing, and ensuring all components operate correctly.

    Maintenance & Servicing:

    • Execute planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules on a variety of HVAC equipment to maximize efficiency and lifespan.
    • Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, filter changes, belt adjustments, and component lubrication.
    • Calibrate thermostats, controls, and sensors for optimal performance.

    Troubleshooting & Repair:

    • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults in HVAC systems using manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools (multimeters, gauges, leak detectors).
    • Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, motors, capacitors, relays, expansion valves, and circuit boards.
    • Perform brazing, soldering, and piping work as needed.
    • Recover, evacuate, and charge refrigerants in compliance with environmental regulations.

    Safety & Compliance:

    • Adhere strictly to all JMG and client site safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE use, and working at heights.
    • Handle refrigerants responsibly and in accordance with local and international regulations (e.g., F-Gas regulations, EPA guidelines).
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, refrigerant handling, and service reports.

    Customer Service & Communication:

    • Interact professionally with clients, explaining technical issues and repairs in a clear, understandable manner.
    • Provide recommendations for system upgrades or energy-saving improvements.
    • Collaborate effectively with the JMG project management and engineering teams.

    Qualifications & Experience

    Essential:

    • Education: OND/HND/B.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A technical/vocational certification in HVAC/R is highly desirable.
    • Certification: Valid Refrigerant Handling License/Certification (e.g., CITB, City & Guilds, or equivalent local certification) is mandatory.
    • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of proven hands-on experience as an HVAC Technician, preferably in a commercial or industrial setting.
    • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in reading electrical and mechanical diagrams.
    • Strong knowledge of HVAC principles, refrigeration cycles, and electrical systems.
    • Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and specialized HVAC equipment (vacuum pumps, recovery machines, manifold gauges).
    • Basic understanding of building management systems (BMS) is an advantage.
    • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and at heights. Must be physically fit for demanding environments.
